How To Nail The Shot - Tanzania Edition

And now for something a little different 🙂
Sometimes I think one of the best ways to get better at wildlife photography is to study how other photographers approach their shots. You know, what settings they use, why they use them, what they are thinking in the field - that sort of thing.
So, I decided to try to do that with this video.
In this video, we’ll look at eight of my images from my recent trip to Tanzania and I’ll share my settings along with why I used them. Not only that, I’ll also share the challenges of each shot and how I handled them in the field. This is a little different; let me know if you want me to do more of these kinds of videos in addition to my regular fare. Enjoy!

Very interesting Steve. More of the same? Yes please. Also, you mentioned you had to do some layering in Photoshop following the use of a couple of Topaz’s products to make the best of a very high ISO image - would really appreciate seeing your workflow on that. I’ve recovered some lovely BIF images from very noisy RAW files using Topaz DeNoise RAW and Sharpen AI but, they always seem to lose too much feather detail.

Great video. I appreciated the discussion points on aperture, shutter speed and ISO for different animals/situations. It was also very helpful to learn some strategies to optimize keeper photos, i.e. keep shooting, lower shutter speed and ISO. You made a great point with the cheetahs that not all animals have to be in focus to make a great pic, which is a learning moment for me as well.
