Oh my gosh. Thank you for this video. I definitely was not doing the steps correctly and unfortunately, Mozilla's support page did not provide a clear answer. The video model really simplified the process. Again, thanks for this video, your clear explanation, and cheerful humor.

Would this also work on Thunderbird. I am going from Windows 7 to Linux. I have a new install on Linux machine and can receive and send emails but do not have my contacts installed from the old machine. I think it has something to do when you open a new install Thunderbird gives the new profile a new name and the old profile name is showing when you copy. If you open the old profile folder and just copy all of the contents and then open the new profile folder and paste would this work?

For Firefox 70.0.1 (64 bit) you need to also copy installs.ini and profiles.ini to the firefox folder or it won't work. Just follow the instrutions on this video and add the aforementioned files. Works fine! Thanks for video Joeteck :)

Would have been easier to follow if the resolution for your screen were higher.

This is very good, but I have several - 5 - profiles in that roaming/profiles folder. so I'm confused about that. Also, there is another profiles folder in appdata/local/mozilla/profiles. Do we do anything with that?

Only do what I do and it will.work..look at the newest profile and move that one.

Man your awesome! Worked perfect for me But.....I copied the the profiles folder complete and it didn't work (should have watched your vid till the end). so then I copied the profile.ini file over and it worked perfect.

Very useful video. One question though: my machine crashed when i was browsing through mozilla ( a lot of open pages at the time) but my ssd with all my data was intact. If i move all the data to to profiles file on my new machine, when i open mozilla will it still open all the pages i was using at the time the pc crashed ? Does it also move the browser history ?

I was with you up to the end where what you did on screen and what you said didn't match up in my mind. Could you please go over what you did again. I've watched it a dozen or more times and didn't get it. I can easily find and copy my FF Profile folder on my old system and even get it pasted in the right place on the new system. What I didn't follow was when you opened and copied one of the profiles (from the old machine or existing on the new one?) then pasted it someplace (the profile existing on the new machine?). Also, you went too fast over what files from the folder that you copied. Did you copy all of the old files in the Profiles folder and paste them into the Profiles folder on the Win 10 system without deleting the files in the folder on the new system?

Go into the profile of current PC, copy its contents to a folder. Go to new pc and paste contents of the other profile. Now your not copying the folder, but rather what is inside of it. Your new profile has already been established. So, you just copying the contents of one to the new.. is that clearer?

I can see my profile for firefox without unchecking unhide protected operating system files to continue on with clicking appdata. I could find my mozila profile without doing that. When I first followed your instruction it's messed everything up when I selected everything and copied it to my zip drive. I had to jump through some hoops to get my mozilla folder back. When I went to roaming there was only one file. It had moved an icon on my desktop and some other things were on my desktop, including a folder that said old firefox data. I had to delete all of that and then there was a huge amount of files in my trash. When I restored it all I could then find it the way you show it. It also placed a folder that says old firefox data from the 1st of the month. I'm afraid to delete that. The data that is now in the proper place has data from today.

Yes, everything as it was. You're copying your profile.

Will you get notification on your phone if Gmail is connected to the profile you are moving?

If you do it that way you'll lose your structure. I would try it again, you may have grabbed the wrong location.
