    I learned about origin points, world origin, and the 3D cursor by constantly screwing things up and spending embarrassing amounts of time trying to troubleshoot. I just knew that applying transformations was important, so that would usually solve the problem. It's definitely better to understand why things are not behaving as expected!

    Usually, you just want to *apply scale.* You generally want to keep rotation, esp. in hard surface modeling (e.g. for moving/scaling along local axes by hitting the X/Y/Z twice). Same for location. Applying it basically just puts the object origin on the world origin (0,0,0) - not sure where you would want to use that.

I made a collection out of the two points, but couldn't find a "Center of mass of collection" option. I resorted to creating a cylinder grabbing its center and then deleting the cylinder. Then I used that point to place the origin of the entire lever. There has to be a better way. Thanks!

    AFAIU the equivalents in Blender are called *Dyntopo,* Voxel/QuadriFlow *Remesh* and *Multiresolution modifier.* No idea which details differ, or how well Blender's tools stack up against a specialized sculpting software. Apparently, multires was kinda borked before 2.90, and a bunch of sculpting features have been added or improved over the year (mostly thanks to Pablo Dobarro) - so yeah, maybe the *2.93LTS release end of May would be a great occasion to get something like a best-practices workflow overview?* ;)

    Very useful. I couldn't find coordinates of a face (to align another face with it), because its origin was in another place. On the other hand, if I press "origin to geometry", it moves the dot to the object, but the arrows remain to stay at the center of the scene. So if I press s to change scale, it still shifts around the center of the scene.

    I have long wondered why you can't just press O and then manipulate the origin as if it was an object in itself. All the thing you can do to objects or vertices could be cool to have available for origin. Holding multiple objects and pressing O before rotating or scaling? Only origins move, good for making objects close in on each other or move in elegant formation, without mesh deformations. And that's just the utmost basic example.

  • @henriklarsen8193

    @henriklarsen8193

    3 жыл бұрын

    Oh, and pressing shift O during an action (like you use shift Z to exclude the Z axis) would essentially be the individual manipulation option that already exists, so that's one free-floating tool that can be folded into something more systematic.

  • @zbop220

    @zbop220

    3 жыл бұрын

    You can do this, there is a toggle to move, rotate and scale by the origins only. Meaning the mesh will ride along but not be distorted. This is especially good when using scale, like if you have some pillars and you want to space them farther but you don't want the pillars distorted. I forget where it is exactly but its called "Origins Only".

Also why can't I move the pivot point in Edit mode?!!!! In Maya you simply press D once for pivot mode and can transform it however you want and don't have to struggle around with so many different buttons. Holding V for snapping or X for grid snapping. It is so important for modelling and in Blender you just waste so much time with it. If someone can explain me how to use it like in Maya please tell me.

    This is the reason why i buried blender. Cursor, origin, gizmo, what a mess. You need 20 clicks to move the gizmo where on lets say maya, you click once. Yes, once.
