How To Mount An Engine to Stand

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we cover how to properly mount an engine to a stand. This is a pretty simple process but the main thing I wanted to help out with is how to choose the right bolt. The correct size that it.

    Do you have an opinion about how to "CENTER" the engine on the bracket so that when you rotate it it stays somewhat symmetrical?

  • @Rythecarguy

    @Rythecarguy

    Жыл бұрын

    This really depends on how adjustable your arms are. You need to choose the trans mounting holes that align the center Kline Of the engine with the support post on the stand.

    I had to put a 1939 Buick L8 engine on a stand but I didn't trust the stand being so much shorter than the engine so I built a rolling cradle for it with left over angle iron for fire place hearths and 3/16 plate. the cast iron tranny is still attached .

    I've never done this and I'm not trying to ask stupid questions. What if you have to work on the clutch or flywheel? Do you just attach the stand to the other end of the engine?

  • @Rythecarguy

    @Rythecarguy

    Жыл бұрын

    not a stupid question! You don't know until you know! It depends on you're situation. You cannot attach it to the other end of the engine. You need to remove the clutch and maybe even the flywheel to make the engine fit on the stand. If you are careful you can sit the engine on an old tire or do like I did. I set it up some wood blocks so support it on. Yours would have to be more study than mine since mine was just temporary untill I got it on the stand. You can see it in the very end of part 4 and the very beginning of part 5 of my engine rebuild series. Here is part 4: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIujq7CtpKixitY.html Hope this helps!

    Few questions, do you need to remove the gearbox first before mounting the engine? and with the spacers is there any chance they'll bow at all or are they pretty solid?

  • @Rythecarguy

    @Rythecarguy

    3 күн бұрын

    Yes, the gearbox has to come off. As long as you get very high-quality bolts and thick spacers, your spacers should not bow or bend.

    Thats strange that 4 bolts and moreover the thread holes can carry the whole engine weight without breaking the block cos it is pulling downwards the one side. I would put another stand or a wood on the other side to balance the weight
