    I work as a semi-professional commercial building janitor (4 hour nights part time), and this video tracks. I like the tip of using what you have. Most buildings I have worked were well equipped, but there was this one clinic where I had to find a gallon icecream bucket to fill my mop bucket, which is about 12 gallons below the wringer. The techniques are quite similar, albeit I usually use a free-end 2-layered string mop, as common with the kind of cleaning I do. I also use either a 24 or 48 inch dustmop before instead of the vacuum, mostly due to the area being covered. All said, a medium sized 1-floor office with about 20 individual offices can have the 3 rugs vacuumed, dust mopped, garbage collected, bathrooms cleaned, high-touch surfaces disinfected, and wet mopped in about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the soil level. The 3-story clinic (middle floor is about 75% of the work by contract requirements) is also about 2 hours. The doctors clean up after themselves better than the office workers though.

    Your hard core! Thanks for the validation! I don’t mop much now. I use a vacuum mop. It’s so much faster and eliminates the vacuum or sweeping step beforehand. But it’s pricey compared and not a good fit for bigger jobs like this. You would have to stop and empty the tank and refill the clean water too often for a larger space.

  • @zacharytaylor190

    @@CleanFreakGermaphobe thanks for the video! Even though there are some differences in the equipment, I can say there are more similarities. If you had the extra time, I think you would make an excellent janitor with your attention to detail and passion for cleaning, and it even makes some money at the same time. It can be physically demanding, but also gratifying. I understand that the night shift is not for everybody though, and it can get tiring. I got lucky that my dad owns a business with excess contracts. It helps me afford my flight training for the time being, since neither Cessna nor Seneca could be considered "cheap."

    I know this comment is old, but do you have any tips? I start as a janitor tomorrow and they said there’s no training, just a “trial period” of 2 days to make sure I can get it all done in 3 hours. Never done it before, I’m nervous!!!

    I think the first step to mopping, I researching all different floor types. I wish I had known that sooner. Now that I’m in the cleaning business, I realize how different all these floor types are, and how they react differently to certain styles of mopping. 😭 I’m still learning about all floor types, my least favorite to mop is marble flooring-it just seems to streak VERY easily! I think a flat head mop is best for them, and then detailing the grouts when needed. I just started using the ocedar mop-I LOVED IT! I just bought a Tsmine spin mop, it’s heavier duty for someone like me who is at several houses a day.

  • @CleanFreakGermaphobe

    @CleanFreakGermaphobe

    Great question. For the O-Cedar mop you just remove the top and wash it in the washing machine. Then air dry in the laundry room. I put the dirty water down the toilet or outside in the yard. I keep the mop and bucket in a closet under our stairs. I don't want to buy a mop without a washable top. Otherwise you'll need to rinse it in clean water several times. You could add some Dawn or a bit of Oxyclean powder to the clean water. Run it under the bathtub faucet to rinse.

    I prefer water as hot as the tap will go. Yes it cools down, but it stays pretty good unless you are mopping a Walmart. As for the steam mops, I gave up with them as they seem to gradually remove the coating, on lino, wooden floors etc. So I agree with you on that. They also break often. Rinsing and wringing your mop as often as you can bare is they key!

    Once with a stiff brush scrubbing up any stuck muck and espescially fluff and hair. Once with a tough mop in cold water with a big splash of domestic bleach and probably changing water, once with clean water to rinse ringing out the mop often. Fast and firm, done in ten minutes. Yes I used to work in a busy city-centre bar and have a stone floor.with soapy water (bleach and cold water is fine can use). Yes the more you spend the better the mop but get something that can go in the washing machine and can cope with a tough job, ideally wooden handle from a hardware shop- I've broken so many plastic handles getting into the grouting.

    The reason I came here is that my floor is never clean after moping. I can wear light color socks and can see they become grey or yellow. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I spray degreaser on the floor in the kitchen, and it's not enough just to mop it. I see the dirt is right in the textured linoleum, and I might need to scrub it but don't want to. Another question is about baseboards. Do you clean them separately after moping?

    I'm 48 I've never found a way that isn't backbreaking. Sorry. I like to use borax mixed with Dawn, on a brush of some kind. Stuff that kills MOLD. Bleach diluted in water, enough that it is no longer dangerous. Vinegar. I just use a toothbrush, or kitchen brush, you shouldn't really need a metal one. I doubt it works better. The only thing that is some solace, is that you shouldn't need to do this each time you clean your bathroom, its not a maintenance clean unless you have OCD.

    So the Mr Clean solution is not the cleaner, but the all purpose floor cleaner is considered the cleaner? or Mr Clean solution was the cleaner, and you just suggested the all purpose one as an alternative?

    Do you still dilute the homemade cleaner when putting it in a mop bucket? Ha, all this information was SO helpful! 👏 Thank you! I just missed that one part of information! Like, the recipe listed... would you use that the same as you would Mr. Clean (diluting 1/4 cup in a ~gallon of H2O)? Or would you just put that recipe in a spray bottle or something and use it straight on the floor? Thanks so much for this video! I want one of those mops now!

    So not the plastic that the mop head attaches to? It can scrape the floor if you don't put it down straight up and down. It's all in the angle, if it's not even, I hear that sound of it scraping. That's one thing I don't like.

    Sweep before you mop and dust before you mop unless you wet dust. Also, no shoes you wear outside in the house. There's no point mopping if you will be getting all that stuff around the house.

  • @CleanFreakGermaphobe

    It's tile that looks like wood, since it's in the bathroom. The rest of the main floor is laminate if I remember right. I'll come change this comment after I check, if it's not. But I'm not showing it in the video. My advice is to get darker grout than we did, it looks good darker but it's dirt. We have tan colored grout.
