    Great tips to take your holster fitting process to the next level. I picked up an inexpensive generic holster at a yard sale and I'm using your video as a guide to shape it. This is the first time I've seen the wax paper trick so it'll be used from now on. Thanks for sharing knowledge!

    I'm very familiar with water based acrylic finishes, you said not to dilute it, and that is correct because that finish is mainly acrylic solids diluted in water, with a small amount of colloidal silica and ammonium hydroxide mixed in. Angelus doesn't disclose the percentage of acrylic solids in their finish, a guess might be around 18-20%, the rest is mainly water. Very interesting video. The content of colloidal silica and ammonium hydroxide is from Angelus MSDS sheet.

    "Let's let this cure and see what we get." is the statement made after the finish was applied to the holster. That indicates to me that the finish was allowed to dry on its own. However in the belt slot video, the statement was made that the acrylic finish on the leather came out of a hot box to be burnished and would be returned to that box to complete the finish curing process. Why isn't the curing hot box shown or explained so the proper finish can be obtained?

  • @EDCLeather

    @EDCLeather

    Жыл бұрын

    The hot box simply speeds up the drying process. It will dry by itself in room temp as well, but it will take a little longer. The hot boxes are just old cabinets that we put lizard heater lamps in with a temperature control box to make sure it doesn't get too hot inside. Hope that helps.

    @@normcrew4125 using a high quality acrylic finish is critical, we use Angelus Acrylic finishes, you need to insure that they have not been frozen, you will see people suggest to cut the acrylic with water, this is usually the case when we hear of acrylic peeling. look at the video on our channel on molding, dyeing and finishing a flatpak holster for a demonstration of acrylic sealing
