mod engine is probably the best and easiest way of modding dark souls. all credit goes out Katalash for making it. before this your option was to fully extract the game and use assets replacement modding. mod engine instead basically uses asset overide which means that whenever a file in the mod engine folder shares the same name as a base file in the game the mod engine option gets used instead.

it depends on the mods. cosmetic mods if you use uxm and replace the file most times you'll be ok, however for mods that change how the game works you would need to remove the mods to be able to run it. What some people do is create a modded copy of the game and an unmodded. doing this would let you not have to remove your mods, however you would need different saves since your save in one game would be tied to mod assets and would probably crash if the assets could not be found.

Hey Hi, I'm having a problem trying to install some bloodborne sets, just skins, and when I do it my savefile is gone, like the "continue" option doesn't show, the mod works fine, but when I delete "dinput8.dll" the savefile is back, any idea how can I solve this? thanks in advance

so by default the mod engine redirects your save to a new location so you dont corrupt your current ones with mods. you can copy your save over to that folder to use it, or inside the mod engines ini you can change the use different save location to false.

i would need more details on what the error message is and what mods are causing it to try and help you. if you just want to run it online i believe one of the xml settings allows for this

sorry im not sure. pirated games tend to have certain things done to them to prevent them from showing up to the game producers as a pirated copy. i also cant/wont install a pirated copy to help troubleshoot. you can try using one of the other methods of modding the game like uxm.

could be a mod compatibility issue. check when the mod was updated and posted comments of it. you may be able to downgrade darksouls to an earlier version, i havent checked if steam allows it for this game but i know it does for others.

Can you run this very cultured mod and the convergence one at the same time, since they have two different engines? Thanks for the tutorial bearman^^

the mod engine is set to use a different save location to avoid corrupting your saves. if you go into the modengine.ini file there is a setting to configure this.

Date is 09/26/2022, I followed the tutorial word for word. Whenever I attempt to load up Dark Souls 3 on Steam, it doesn't play at all. I see on my account it says I'm playing Dark Souls 3, it loads for about 5 seconds and then stops and shuts the game down completely. Whenever I load up the .exe file, I get this error: DarkSoulsIII.exe - Application Error This application was unable to start correctly (0xc00000142). Click OK to close the application. How do I fix this?

so when using mod engine it uses a different save location. you can copy your existing save over to that folder, or turn off the different save location in the engines ini. i would advice copying since using a mod and removing it will corrupt a save.

i keep meaning to get back and check this. so the individual that made modengine made modengine 2, so i am unsure if they are still updating this one. what you could try doing is getting the modengine used for convergence or ember and see if they still function is so you should be able to modify them to launch other mods instead. you can also check to see if there is an updated version of nexus, or you can try doing my new tutorial using mod engine 2. i apologize for the toml section in advanced

@@erickneisler so using mod engine it will use a temp save location by default. you can alter the modengine.ini to use your cloud save if you want (just change the save location setting from 1 to 0), or you can access steam cloud and copy your save over to the temp save location

i tried following this but either the mods just not working for me or i’m missing a step. I did everything you did multiple times and honest merchant /etc won’t work at all and it’s very frustrating. Any way you can help me figure out why the mods won’t work?

@@couchcmd I'm also trying the same thing to use honest merchant and this mod to see if they work at the same time but both have the same name for the engine but in the honest merchant mod file you have to make the first dinput8.dll for the ds3 mod engine to othermod.dll and in the honest merchant you change go down to where it says .dll= then you put othermod.dll and it should work my game loaded up but I don't have a controller to fight gundr and using mouse and keyboard sucks. Do you think you could try and do a tutorial on how to use multiple mod engines that require the same names and or how to get them to work together? That would be so helpful you explain way better than most other tutorials

go offline. most games with mod engine will block your network connection, but make sure you set it to offline and you should be ok. if you want to go online you will need to make sure to remove the mod content or just uninstall and reinstall, but be aware your mod saves will probably not function without the mods.

alot of armor mods say to place in parts folder. but i cant find one

so they are referencing if you are using uxm to replace the mod pieces. that being said provided you use the right folder structure you can replace the models still using mod engine

so i added the mod engine and mine doesnt say modengine.inii it just says mod engine when pasted , but in the zip it does have inii at the end . will that affect anything ?

i keep putting off playing this game again. i have had several people over the last few months tell me both options no longer work, but i havent really wanted to dig into it again. i may make a 2023 update in the next few weeks to confirm if there is an issue. im reluctant to do this normally because for every game that has actually needed a changed video there are two or three where the person complaining about it not working just skipped around and didnt actually follow my instructions and there was no issue

theres different toml files for each game so as long as you dont reference elden ring in the dark souls toml and vice versa they will only install the mods you want

the general measures most people recommend is 1. do not play a modded save (this should be easy since it defaults your saves to a different location) 2. make sure mod engine and the mods its uses are set not run or removed. 3. if you used uxm to alter anything besides models you will need to restore those files or uninstall and reinstall the game. this is not a guarantee since i do not know how dark souls anti cheat works or their policies on bans. i personally would just uninstall and reinstall the game and confirm that none of my modded saves are displaying.

can I do this and use my old save files? becaue I can only select new game. my mode changes something that I get a bit later. don't want to play only to see that it didn't work

so when using mod engine it switchs to using a new save location so you dont corrupt your active game. you can copy your current save over to use it, however if you are saving to the cloud you need to dl it

I did that as well as the current mod I was trying to download and it was launching with mod still. All those folders are deleted and I deleted the game and am reinstalling hopefully that’ll let me launch normally and I can apply the mod correctly . I’m still kind of a noob to pc so it’s a little frustrating lol

so a zip file is a compressed file. its used to save space. Most mods you download will be compressed since it saves time uploading and downloading the file. Most programs cant read zip files though so for you to actually use the mod you have to extract it. You can right click and extract or double click and go into the file then move it else where.

i was able to get it to work by just downloading the mod engine recommended for the mod, moving the dinput8 and modengine.ini folders over, and then creating a mod folder and putting the mod in there. would you mind giving more details on what error your getting and how the mods not working?

@@Obama-sk4ez so basically the issue of why its not running is because of the recent 2.15.2 update, a lot of mods only work for 2.15 so you have to downgrade your dark souls 3 to 2.15. I recommend making a backup save of your dark souls 3 if you have a save that you want to keep.
