    I have a question about this, one of my toes is bending to the right, like the joint is bending. Mostly on the the knuckle closes to the toe nail. I try to get toe strsigjners and there’s no realts, the toe is mostly damaged from dragging it side ways and my other foot don’t got that same bent. I’m not if this technique would work or not bc I haven’t tried it, but I was wondering if that’s common?

    Could you clarify what you mean by dropped joints in the second half of the video? When we push them are we trying to move the joints somewhere they are not?

  • @KatieBodyFix

    Hi there :) when our toes get compressed and wear a shoe that is not "Zero Drop", the metatarsophalangeal joints actually angle downwards as a result. This then creates extra pressure on the joint, and leads to things like hammer toes where we can't get the toes straight. We want to mobilize the joints from the bottom of the foot upward to get them aligned straight again. We also have to move away from footwear that has a positive heel to toe drop. Hope this helps!

    If toe deformity happen for a particular mechanical reason.. couldn't an inverse mechanic be applied so the body finds its neutral posture? for example, if lack of ankle dorsiflextion?? causes people to spend too much time loading the head of their toes.. wouldn't increasing the range of motion at the ankle regain their "balance"? perhaps even adjusting their gait to spend less time loading the head of their toes.. and doing active strengthening and stretching.. wouldn't that do a significant recovery?

  • @endo9902

    @endo9902

    I say that because i don't see a few minutes of daily stretching...yet hours of overloading the joint in disfuctional ways.. I don't see that reversing or stopping the progression of the deformity.

    @@endo9902 Stretching is great for muscle, and very much needed. Most foot deformities can be attributed to footwear. We can stop wearing shoes that deform our feet, however we also need to manually address the joints that have been compressed and therefore the muscles that have become inhibited. Loss of ankle DF can certainly lead to an overuse of the toe extensors (amongst many other compensatory strategies). For all toe deformities, it's almost certain you will need toe spacers to correct the alignment and facilitate proper muscle recruitment.

    @@KatieBodyFix I have ...or starting to develop tailors bunion and I am surprised that my physical therapist have not suggested any program to address this.. no mention of toe spacers.. no mention of shoe review..etc.. same with the foot doctors.. it's like they given up that nothing can be done and let the patient go to hell, lol

    Hi Timothy. Results actually come quickly with consistency. People who do this once in a while, pro 1-2 x week won't see progress very quickly. However if you can do this at the least 1-2x daily you will see changes in your foot mobility and control.

    Hi there. Sorry to hear that. I come across this often with clients and patients as there is little info out there on what else needs to be done. Mobility and strength exercises are essential to foot correction. Toe spacers are just the beginning :) I also offer this kit which provides everything necessary to begin your foot restoration www.ptbodyfix.com/product-page/Foot-Health-Kit Check out all my foot exercise videos too for even more necessary strengthening!
