Here is a Material list for you: I tend to use a mix of Artist's quality Windsor & Newton and Michael Harding paints. The latter being my favourite choice as he makes them like the old masters did many years ago.
Please note: if you are just starting out, and price of materials are an issue, I would recommend the Windsor & Newton *Winton series... these have the same quality pigment as the Winsor & Newton Artists series but less of it, there are more fillers and extenders in them but the quality is still there at a smaller cost... just click on any link below and search for them as the cheaper option. The more expensive option below, the benefits are, they last longer as they are super rich in pigment and they are amazing to work with.

Indeed, and minus any unnecessary music.
This is a great guide as other painters convolute their lessons with different barriers and color ranges, you just dove right into it without “starting with the dark areas” or using only 3 colors for the painting, I hope other artists find this within time as it really helps with showing how easy painting is while hitting all the right marks to get a nice outcome

Thank you so much for the kind feedback. In the 80's I researched how the Old masters used a simple palette. I use the same colour in all the mediums I create with. I like to keep things simple and straight forward. All the very best 🙏

I really enjoy your calm style. I started oil painting back in 2016. Set them down for a bit. Today I had a very important commission of a landscape, river, with people I know in a boat. Tiny people faces are not my favorite. Getting the detail to make it look like the correct person in such a small space was quite a challenge. I was looking for new ideas on how to build a skin tone palette to assist, and yours was it. The people are in the boat. God Bless. Subscribed!

How do you feel about the color study? I notice the reference is warner than the study. Was that a conscious decision to bring the piece back into the real world from a digital display? Beautiful work, I see you didn't do any formal color matching and just experimented towards your colors. This looks like a fun and liberating approach, though I feel I'm not at that level yet.
@DavePortersArt
Ай бұрын
Hi Kevin, it is an issue I have with different devices seeing different things. the colour is the same as reference in real life, but the video camera sees it different... I am constantly trying to improve my editing skills. It is a fun technique very flexible and liberating too. give it a go it is easier than you think. 🙏
@kevingil1817

@DavePortersArt I've subscribed. In my journey I recently only became aware of the importance of color. Before I would just select the colors arbitrarily, but lately I've been really into trying to exactly replicare the colors of a reference. My worry it that I revert to just using what I think the color is rather than what the color actually is. Absolutely the end goal is to confidently and organiganicslly color match when possible. Ill try to step out of my confort zone and give it a shot soon. I also work with colored pencils often and there you have no choice but to be bold with colors.
I'm seriously studying your work to learn from. Question: Some youtube sites say emphatically, that Liquin fumes are highly poisonous and carcinogenic. Since you are a wise man and have an open container of Liquin on your palette, you must be breathing in some fumes, help me to understand .... Have you used it many years? How do you stay safe? I only ask because I want to paint along with you to learn from you and I would love to use Liquin to speed my oils drying time.
@DavePortersArt
2 ай бұрын
Hi Joyce, Thrilled you like my technique. I have heard the same. My bottle of Liquin has no health warning printed on the label. For about 13 years from the age of around 20 I slept in the same room where I painted and used a lot of liquin in those days... I always kept a window open, there is a slight smell with liquin but I never had a problem unlike turps and white spirit where I found it hard to breath using them. I only put a small amount of Liquin in the paint now. Mostly I paint with no medium at all... this has been possible by using Michael Harding paints, they are buttery ( made like the old masters used) and not as dry like the Artists quality Windsor and Newton brand. All the very best 🙏

Thank you very much for a very informative v. I enjoyed watching you paint and liked your way of commenting, it’s the mineral spirit and turpentine that are toxic not the liquin. Thank you for sharing your experience and I have subscribed to your channel.
