Yeah, vince ventrulla says a painted is always better than not. I hard disagree. That said, I do think that most people can manage a simple zenithal that looks neat.

Marco: It only takes about 2 hours to finish such a miniature! Me: "applying zenithal with a brush for the next 5 hours"

Isn’t it always like that?

This is a 18 minute video, with about 4 hours of study material in it. Sketching and blending the white and black to create a zenithal highlight, using primaries alone to make the other colors. creating a color gradient to paint with, Non metallic metal tutorial, thinning and brush control (Yes, I learned I need to thin my paints even more, and I am pressing way to hard to get paint on the model, I am new at this). Excellent video, with tons of amazing info.

jep, watched it for the 4th time, practicing with a small pallet of inks @ moment, in the pipeline professional acrylics (2 sets) and oil paint at the end.... In between some normal Vallejo, Army painter and Scale 75 ;p

LOVE this quote: "If you don't get the right lights and shadows, details can't do much to save your paint job."

Q: So how many colors do you need? Marco: No.

I also don't get it. Marco is easily among the best out there, if not the best. At leasthe makes the best tutorials by an order of magnitude. I am watching youtube miniature painting channels for at least 5 years now but I easily learned the most from Marco. The tutorial on using air brushes alone... He just shows the little details and tricks, no one other does (or maybe can :p)

For those who keep commenting that they can't do it this fast, or the 15 minutes he spent hand-painting zenithal lighting would take 4 hours for them, etc: don't worry about speed. The speed will come with practice. Focus on getting it right for now. Get used to seeing a model in terms of light and shadow, shape, and contrast. Sketch in light and color, smooth out the transitions, and be proud of your work as you get better and better!

This is soooo good! Both the paintjob and the vid. :-) Love the shot with the mini and the wet palette in frame the whole time!

15 minutes of sketching wow... just wow...

I'm a good "technical" miniature painter but you've really helped me to practice painting more boldly and with more of an artistic style. I grew up with the GW step by step method and artists like you have helped push me away from it into a more artistic direction. Thank you!

I don't know much about minies but I know what I like. I truly enjoy watching your tutorials on painting minies for whatever I get an extreme sense of pleasure and well being.

I've never quite had as strong a realization of how my painting style is a mechanical conveyor belt to what your style is. It's amazing you can pull such a beautiful result from simple techniques using actual artistic skill!

I'm 6 minutes in and I had to pause. Marco, you are absolutely my favorite you tube miniature painter. This kind of guide/video series is what I have been wanting. I'm an amature sculptor, painting is new to me. But when I was young my folks could only afford these 4 color crayola oil based clay packs. I has red, yellow, blue and green. Any other colors I wanted I had to mix. Those were my "toys" if I wanted a ninja turtle, I mixed the colors and sculpted one, or a Godzilla, or a power ranger lol. Sadly I never had white so yellow was subbed for white, ALOT. Paints don't allways mix the same as the clay did but I'm learning more color theory as I go. Anyway, thank you for your vids 👍❤

I love that this is considered a "homework project." What a great way to think about and approach painting minis. I've got so many unpainted minis (scowls at self in mirror) and as soon as Marco mentions "homework,' I immediately realize that this is how I get more of them painted. Just do the work and experiment and learn. They aren't all going to be masterpieces. Getting that thought process out of my head is so healthy. Sketch, paint, practice, practice, practice. I'll often do sketches like this with drybrushing to get started, every method has different looks to it.

We should organise a petition, signed by all subscribers to Marco's channel and send it to Liquitex. They should be front and centre as an official sponsor of this channel. Marco brought us Liquitex inks, now the latest Liquitex offering in acrylic gouache. Yes, Marco says use the paints you already have, but I think Liquitex will see a sales bump based on the quality of their product as demonstrated by Marco. I'm definitely ordering some......

Combining classic approaches and simultaneously gently rejecting streamlined processes in mini painting - a very good video.

Hi just watched your video I can't believe you can paint a model just with 5 paints. I find it hard to painted a model because all the paint you need to paint just one model. The GW tutorials are so regimented in what they do. I love the video and I joy watching it.

I think the reason why your videos are not as popular as some is because people are intimidated by oils. I love that you use oils and now I have adopted them into my miniature painting, hopefully more will jump on the bandwagon!!
