How To: Mimaki Printer Weekly Clean

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video you can watch the full process of the weekly maintenance cleaning for a Mimaki printer including cleaning around the print head and carriage, cleaning the wiper, cleaning the cap top, performing a disway wash, and emptying the waste tank. I'm performing the weekly clean on my Mimaki CJV150-160 print/cut machine but the process is the same or very similar for most eco-solvent printers including Roland Versacamm etc..
Thanks for watching, please do subscribe if you have found this video useful. I'll be adding more MIMAKI tutorials soon, along with product reviews and showing off some of the rad stickers I produce with my machine.

Hey man, we just got a UCJV300-160 at my work and I was the guy they kinda decided would figure it out. xD This video really helped make me confident I did my first clean right on this brand new printer, I will say they've done away with the disway wash and it's pack on the back of the printer on the newer ones, it's just an option in the menu, you fill them with cleaning solution and wait, the wiper is also oriented different with a wiper wiper to clean aswell, but no biggie. Cheers and thanks again going the trouble to make this video.

Hi there! Thanks so much for this video. I am looking at a used Mimaki CJV300-160 for a maker space and was wondering if there was anything you (or others) may look for when deciding whether or not to purchase the printer. Specifically any red flags or giveaways that it may be near the end of it's lifespan. Thanks!

Hey! Thanks. These things are pretty robust but they can still have issues even if they have been well looked after. The most expensive part will be the print heads, and I believe that model has 2 of them. If you go to have a look at it, ask them to put it into maintenance mode which brings the print heads to the far left side of the machine. There is a flap under where they will rest, pull that down and inspect the surface of the print heads carefully (take a torch). They look like smoked mirrors (see mine in this video), it is normal to have a build up of dried ink around the edges (not a lot though) but what you are looking for is scratches or any damage to the print head surface - any damage here will hit you in the pocket down the line. Before you do any of that, when you get there (Don't ask them in advance so they can 'prepare' for it), but ask them to fire up the machine from cold and run a print test. Check there are not a load of the print test lines missing, some are ok and should come back by running a clean. Hope that helps. A word of warning, if you are hoping to buy 2nd hand do consider any warranty implications as mine is well looked after but has had 2 new print heads under warranty. I would not have wanted to cough up for those myself! When this one reaches the end of the warranty period I'll be getting a new one with a full warranty. These things are expensive but can pay for themselves if you have enough work to put through it.

@@joyboxcustomprint Thanks so much for your very through answer! Hoping to take a look at it later this week, fingers crossed it goes well. Especially thanks for the heads up on not letting them prepare for a test print. I was originally planning on asking them to send me a photo of one as the printer is a few hours away from my location. Cheers!

You're welcome - if the printer is in constant use it may not be possible but if it is switched off when you get there that would be a bonus! Good luck :)

Yes I did, it is just a flexible led strip from Amazon amzn.to/34JXPvC - It makes it much easier to see how your print is doing ✔

I am bit confused, i have tshirt printing and embroidery business but i wanna take my business to next level, which print and cut good? BN20 OR MIMAKI CJV150-75? Thanks in advance

BN20 has awesome print quality but it is slow and you would likely outgrow it very quickly. CJV150-75 is almost on par with the BN20 in terms of print quality but is much quicker. Personally I looked at the BN20 for about 10 minutes before deciding it would not meet my needs. Bigger is better 👍

Jesus! The waste ink bottle doesn't have a cap or seal of any kind. It's just 'hanging in there', which means the toxic VOCs from the ink must be stinking up the entire room ( more so than absolutely necessary ). Good to know. Never get a Mimaki!

When I filmed this I kept the printer inside an insulated tent in my work unit. When it was sealed the ink would be stinky on occasions. Now I've moved into a different unit and it is not so 'penned' in (no longer in a tent) I've not smelt any solvent at all from the ink or waste in. Are Roland waste tanks sealed do you know?

@@joyboxcustomprint I maintain a Roland LEF-200, and the waste ink bottle is thankfully capped ( with a tube going through the cap ). Also, the waste ink bottle sits inside the case, so off-gassing VOCs are a bit more contained. It still smells, though, when you lift the lid or get close to the printer, but not from 4-5 feet away. ...Lately, after reading accounts of people becoming allergic, I have gotten into the habit of wearing a respirator when doing maintenance, especially if I need to hover near the capping station. The less I breathe or touch that stuff, the better. I am also thinking I should get an air quality monitor, near the printer, to gage ambient VOC levels.
