How to merge 2 pieces of J-Channel. This is how I create a slip joint with two pieces of J Channel.

Great looking method for joining two pieces of J-channel. Camera could use a little work, though. Some of the cutting was almost off camera, hard to see what you were doing.

Too much effort for me. I would butt-joint them and leave a 1/4" gap for expansion. The gap would serve as a water drain hole.

It might seem like extra effort, but it helps hold the J Channel in place while you’re nailing it.. that makes it a lot easier to place and saves time (it’s pretty much like having an extra set of hands). And for drainage we could always cut out the back more. Little gaps here and there add up and make the overall job look not as nice imo. But to each their own. 🤷🏼♂️
