    1999 ML no T10 bulbs in cluster, all are T5. Just ordered 300 lumen 2 watt T5 bulbs in blue off Amazon...brightest ones I've found. I will be doing all four in blue and the temp in white. If anyone wants to see what the end results are I'll be posting a video sometime in June so try and subscribe.. not doing this for money a have like no subs. I have ordered the rings like Fupa showed us how to install in another video.. and I have ordered white gauge faces and aslo gauge frame insert in silver, so I'm going all out with mine. Thank you again for your videos.

    G'day from downunder. Great mod. I did a similar upgrade to my Suzuki Boulevard C50 about 10 years ago - although that required a lot of re-soldering, rather than bulb replacements. Looking forward to doing this on my 'new' ML350. I noticed some comments about changing the bulbs in the centre console so I'm keen to see how hard that would be. The upgraded stereo has red LEDS, so curious as to whether anyone has had experience with using Red LED's & how visible that is compared to original &/or blue? Cheers from new subscriber.

    There is a reason why the led are this color in Mercedes, because they found out after testing that's best color light is the one that they use, has much better readability, clarity, and easier on eyes, and creates less distractions. This is well research phenomenon by Mercedes, in fact all the German cars use orange/white back led for the same reasons. Main reason is safety.

    I tried to do exactly this in my '98 SLK 200 (R170) (the 200 isn't sold in the US, only in Europe). But the T10's you used here were too large for my intrument cluster, plus I think there are like yellow plexiglass plates inside the cluster, because I now have smaller white T10's behind the gauges and the cluster still lights up kind of yellow

  • @fupabox

    @fupabox

    7 жыл бұрын

    yes the R170 gauge doesn't have as deep a hole to put the bulb in, so a smaller T10 LED is needed. There are different colors of white LEDs The T10s you got may not be "bright white" I have some that are not true white and look the same as incandescent s when they are lit

    ***** The ones i had were very bright white, much brighter even than the regular incandescent bulbs. I don't know how the gauge cluster color remains roughly the same. The blue LED T10's I did have didn't light up my cluster at all, unfortunately :(

I did the same thing on my ML 270 with both red and blue LEDs, excellent result but they started to burn out after a few kilometres, replaced again but for the last time, with the engine running but the car stopped, everything was ok but as soon as I started walking, a few meters later the painting almost caught fire. The result was that all the lamps were burnt out and I had to redo the wires and put the normal bulb back in, maybe a bad quality LED?

    They are pretty simple to work on , with lots of room in the engine compartment.. 2001 and later models are much much more reliable than the 1998-2000 . 2005 + are even better. I would recommend an icarsoft i980 code reader do simplify and repairs and diagnosis on post 2000 Benz's . Simple things like burned out bulbs or malfunctioning door locks can halt repairs until the code is reset. ( it was designed to cut power to inoperative systems after several attempts in the sake of safety, and to prevent short circuits etc. , some systems reset when the car is restarted, some require the codes to e erased. It is frustrating until you realize what is going on. ) As an example my w203 had a license light go out..I replaced the bulb , but it wouldn't come on..I swapped the bulb with the other side, and now both were out. I figured There was a short somewhere and started tracing wires. Nothing ..restarted the car and saw that the light from the first side worked, but the second was out, so I put in a new bulb in the second side and nothing again. Once I restarted the car both lights worked. The canbus was cutting power to save possible fires from a short. My mistake was swapping bulbs with the lights on (as on a normal car . so I could tell when the new bulb powered up, but removing the bulb, with the ignition on made the canbus cut the power in case of a short . Hopefully that makes sense. Other systems will not reset until the code is erased.. power locks for example

    Perfect! So to begin, I'm testing this deck on my 2007 tacoma before I decide whether or not I want to purchase a second one and put it in my mom's ml320 for her. First question I have is regarding the metra dash kit I purchased for this install. The deck does not fit into the front fascia trim. I thought all double din decks were a universal size are they not? It seems like this deck is about a half inch too big, length and width wise =/. I noticed that you left a review on the Amazon page talking about the fascia trim so i assumed maybe you ran into this same issue?

I installed the gps antenna properly, and put the micro SD card into the card reader located at the top right of the deck. However, when I go to navigation mode, it asks me to insert an SD card as if it isn't recognizing the card that is already inserted. Thoughts?

    fupabox hope all is great! I had an issue with my led gauge lights. I bought the same ones you have, they worked great for about a month. A few days ago I turned on my w163 and smelled like if something electronic was burning then no more lights. I checked fuses and relays but nothing found then u opened up the cluster and looked closely at the circuit board and found one of the small transistor had a hole in it. luckily I had a few extra old clusters and found a similar chip and replaced it. now lights are back in business. I stuck the original one back on.what do you think caused the problem. Thanks in advance brother.

    possibly a badly made LED bulb, or an LED bulb failed and a piece fell off and shorted the transistor.. Hard to say..could also be solder whiskering which causes a lot of electronic issues in older circuit boards when lead was replaced with more "friendly" materials. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whisker_(metallurgy)
