How to Measure Your Water Tank Level

My buddy has a property that I'm helping him out on every now and then, and one of the problems he's been having, is suspecting that he's not getting as much water delivered to him than what he's paying for (his water tank has no capture at yet, as the house and sheds are not yet built, so he has to buy water) and there wasn't a really good way for him to measure how much water he has in his tank. So we came up with this idea to make a water tank measuring system using a simple method; a dip stick.

Love your videos! Thx Heaps! An idea for tank water measurement > pop a 1/2 filled 1L plastic soda bottle into the tank, attached to a (nylon) string as long as the height of the full capacity of the tank. Attach The other end of the string to a 1/4 filled soda bottle (or a nut). Hang the lighter bottle/nut outside the tank. Stick your marker stick on the outside of the tank. As the nut goes up/down you can see the water level without having to climb!

Not bad for a "no-cut" solution.
Tapping on the tank is the best old fashioned way, the empty part will sound hollow and the fill part will sound solid 😃👊
Another great video mate... what i did with the water tank at work was install a clear piece of tubing up the side off the tank and than marked every 1000 L but that involved waiting until tank was empty and drilling a hole large enough to fit the tubing/fittings needed to make sure it doesn't leak. Also let us know if your mate is getting the right amount of water his paying for when you get an update!

Yeah, you can really only see it go into the tank as it passes the camera at the 3:00 mark. It's a 2.4 metre piece of dowel with equal markings on it to show every 1000 litres. Sorry I forgot to show the whole thing in a wide angle shot. I'll be sure to consider that in my future videos; thanks for the feedback!
not practical if your overhead tank is 20-30 feet high, you will need to climb back and forth just to check the water level
