Seems that NO ONE knows this info. I showed it to a snowboard sales person and they were like "Ohhh, whoa, this is interesting", and they agreed with it after testing it. Before watching this video I was getting sized a full size too big each time I rented. Watched this, downsized and my feet did not hurt anymore. Used this method to measure my foot and find the right size. I wear a size 14 shoe traditionally. After measuring I was on the cusp of 12.5 into 13 for snowboard boots. One of my feet is slightly bigger than the other (most people have the same issue, they just don't know) and I went with a size 13 snowboard boot. Ordered some Burton Ruler double boas and they arrived recently. They fit just like this video (and the last video) said they should - an "all-around fit". My toes slightly touch the front, but not in a bad painful way. After some break in the heat moldable liner the boots will mold to my feet and it will give a few extra millimeters . Then they'll fit even better. I can't say thanks enough for this video. This is a piece of snowboarding gold. Update: Ridden 4 times with the new boots and have had ZERO foot pain. This video is spot on.

This video is a godsend. I've been a casual/occasional snowboarder since 2003. In all those years, no shop or instructor has ever taught me how to properly measure boot size and how critical it is to the experience. Now I finally have the means and location to snowboard more frequently and I'm so glad you posted this information.

Awesome stuff. I bought a pair of boots back in 2001. And since inception, i've always struggled with arch pain. Just last week, which is 20 years later, I rode with the same boots and still arch pain and had alot of fatigue in my front foot arch and both of my shin muscles. I was only able to enjoy about 2-3 hours till I was tired from lower body exhaustion from the fatigue. Now I understand why: I've got to much space in my heel, which is shifting my forward heel off the bottom of the boot and I'm curling my toes and arch in order to hold a toe lean. DANGGGG....OUCHHHH. My shoe size is and 8 and I just bought a size 8 boot back in the day. And I did not work then and still 200 years later Its still not working. And now I know why. This is an awsome vid series. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. From a 52 year old dad trying to catch up with my college age kids, this means the world.

Hey Wired, thank you so much for your video. I’m 6’3” 230lbs and I ride a Burton Custom X 162W. I don’t do much or any park riding, rather I would say I do more freeriding. I carve hard, chase speed, natural jumps, tree runs, and powder riding. I took my barefoot measurements and my longer foot is 28.5/28.6cm x 9.9/10cm. I’m particularly looking at purchasing the Burton Photon Step-Ons. Still interested in any other boot suggestions you’d make for my foot size but certainly want the step-ons. Want to make sure I get the right size because with the step on system I will need to buy the correct binding per boot size. A size 10.5 puts me in a Medium binding and a size 11 puts me in a Large. With the size 10.5Wide Photon i feel all my toes pressed up against the liner and with the size 11 Photon I feel my big toe pressed up against the liner. I get maybe 10-15days on the mountain so not sure how they will break in. Thank you again for the above resources and really appreciate your help and suggestions

Amazing resource you are providing to the snowboard community. Much appreciated. How does snowboard sizing accommodate high insteps? Does one size appropriate to length and width and lace more loosely? Or perhaps go wider than indicated width? I understand that high arch is dealt with by adjusting the footbeds or insert...I am referring to the foot height on top of foot bone and where it meets the ankle. My high instep makes it impossible for me to wear slip on shoes and my athletic shoes always need to be super widely laced. In snowboard boots I get major hot spots on the top of my foot. Nearly instant tingling from the nerve on the top of foot bone. Foot pain often registering on a 7 or 8 in scale of 10. I'm the guy walking around in socks at apres ski. Lol. I may have been compensating by going too large in size and then over tightening to prevent heel lift. Perhaps a bad habit from hockey skate days? I measure 262mm x 103mm. I believe this indicates 8.5 snowboard size and an E (assuming the left side of width chart is boot size and not sneaker size). I wear 9.5 athletic sneakers and have gone as high as 10.5 boots in snowboard rental shops to be able to even enter a boot height wise. (I suspect rental shops have handwritten sneaker size on their inventory to do the quick conversion for speeds sake). Any advice would be much appreciated. I expect a dual zone that allows a looser fit on bottom zone is essential. Please advise if traditional, quick lace, or Boa might offer other advantages.

Hi Chris, The most important first step is to get into snowboard boots of your correct Mondopoint size and width. 262 mm is Mondopoint 265 or size 8.5 US in snowboard boots. The total range for this is 261 to 265 cm so you are at the smaller side of this range. 103 mm is EE width which will require a specific Wide boot. Ride make the Lasso Pro Wide for EE width. You will not want to make any judgements based on Rental boots as these have not been heat molded to your foot and as they have been broken in by many feet. This is compounded by using far too large a size. Snowboard boot liners are very compliant and can accommodate almost all feet including high insteps with a professional heat mold. These are your next steps. Only if you have comfort issues at that point would you take additional action. STOKED!

My mondo measurements are length 25.1 cm R, 24.6 cm L, width both 9.5cm. I have narrow heels and ankles. I have been wearing Burton Rulers 7.5 for about 8 years, after sizing down from 8's, which are responsive but close to painful to ride by the end of the day. I was in a shop the other day and the boot fitter says I should be in a 7 wide to go with my smaller foot and to fix/mold the right boot if necessary to fit the right foot which is barely a 7.5 on your boot fitter guide. The only boots they had in stock in 7 to try on were Ride Lasso Pro Wide which was tight on my big toe but otherwise felt good every where else... And a K2 Maysis wide which was even more comfortable... Not that comfortable at the store is necessarily good...I hear ya. It looks like on your width chart I'm between a D and an E as a 7 , maybe closer to an E? I was hoping to use Burton Step Ons but not sure they work for my feet. The Swath 8s feel ok but too much volume in the toe box and the 7.5s🤷🏼 well those fit better but my experience was after a few hours my feet wanted out when I rode the Rulers at 7.5. Should I even bother trying a Burton Step on boot with my feet, try a 7 if I could get it on?

Hey guys! Excellent and detailed review, this level of technical fitting is fundamental!! Couldn't agree more! I would love your input as I'm in a massive conundrum with my next boot size. -Length Measurement: 28cm -Width Measurement: 10.2cm Referenced against your website algo, my measurements call for a perfect US10. I am very nervous to get a ten, considering a 10.5, because my last pair of boots (which unfortunately I don't have access to atm, and therefore can't tell you the size were definitely too small on me, and used to cause my pinky toe on my leading foot to go numb every time I rode, from pressure exerted, to the extent where I have a minor bone growth from the hours of pressure the little guy has faced... In that pair, I can distincly recall not being able to have my toes flat, they were a bit crunched up.. The referenced pair I used about 10 yrs ago, and purposely bought them a bit small to minimize toe drag as I enjoy carving a lot.. God, I just wish I could know what size they were.. Would love your feedback!

Hi Ramzi, I will be happy to help. 280 mm (28 cm) is the largest measurement in the 5 mm range for Mondopoint 280 or size 10 US in snowboard boots. 102 mm (10.2 cm) is the largest measurement in the range for standard D width at this size. You will want to double check your measurements to make sure that you are not above the posted sizes. If you are not then you are Mondopoint 280 or size 10 US at a standard D width. As always you will want to have your heat fit done first thing. STOKED!

Thank you so much for the helpful information! I’d love it if you could help me with a fit question. I’ve been riding about 10 years. I bought new snowboard boots in April 2021, professionally fitted at a ski shop. This was my second pair of boots, so I had a good idea of how they should feel. They were snug and comfortable immediately, and heat molded for me. I love the performance with them. The issue I’m having is that on multiday trips, my big toes get sore and go numb. The numbness will last for a full 4 to 6 months after the last trip of the season. (I don’t live near a ski town and only do 2 to 3 trips per year.) On my last trip, a physical therapist suggested that my boots could be causing nerve damage. I was diagnosed with compartment syndrome about eight years ago. It’s an overuse injury (from Ling dbut stance running) that caused the fascia in my calves to become rigid, and they cut off the blood flow to my feet during repetitive activities, or if my calves are constricted. I just carefully measured my feet according to your instructions and my boots are sized correctly. But I’m wondering what my next step should be to try to prevent my toes from going numb. Am I lacing too tight around my calves? Do I actually need larger boots-more room around my toes? I would love some advice so that I can enjoy riding without the discomfort of lasting numbness, and the potential worry of doing long-term damage. I had the same issue with my old boots, which were a different manufacturer. So I’m not convinced that the new boots are the problem, I think it is sizing or lacing. Thank you!

Was just on the K2 site yesterday and downloaded and printed their boot sizing template/chart, which is set up to use on the floor under the foot in accord with your wall technique. It equates mondo 29.5 to U.S. mens' size 12.5, "indicates snug boot fit, size up or down to preference." Of course this is different from 11.5 = mondo 29.5. I'm guessing that they and other manufacturers would rather not be switching out boots that were ordered online any more than necessary, so they may err on the side of largeness. Also I notices that Salomon now sells online in U.S. sizes that are different from their mondo and US markings of years past. I have a couple old pairs of Malamutes (5 and 10 yr old) that are labeled 30.5 mondo and US mens' 12.5, which matches your bootsizer. They don't seem to sell a 12.5 online.

  • @wiredsport1

Yes, we're aware of this. It is really bad information and it should *not be online*. Mondopoint size is simply a barefoot measurement in millimeters. It is not a conversion. Brannock shoe size operates on a range of measurements and what you have posted from the K2 site is incorrect. It does not match Brannock measurements. STOKED!

Hello, thanks for the informative video. After watching I measure my feet - both are 270mm in lenght and 103 in width. I'd like to purchase the step on system for the upcoming season - do you think Ion's size 9 (42 euro) is a good option? I've had horrible pain issues with my feet and numbness which ruins the fun so much, especially when I tighten the lower part of the boot. So, as a result I just loosen up the lower part and tighten the upper. Current boots are thirty two size 43 euro (my actual shoe size), however, sometimes I still get numbness and pain, especially when tightening the lower part. Do you think that's a result of the boot not being wide enough for my feet? Never considered wide boots until your video tbh. I'd greatly appreciate your answer, thanks

Standing relaxed its at the lower end, pressing hard its at the higher. This was measured with your method. With a brannock device I get around 10,1 cm. Which is the correct measurement? Do I have wide feet or not? :) Thanks!

I cross referenced this measurement with Burton's size chart, specifically their Mondo number, and it seems I'm a size 9 although on your boot sizer softwares it says I should get a size 8. Which one should I get? Also should I get the wide version? Currently I ride a newly bought Burton Photon size 9. The fit is very snug with the toes touching the front of the liner and minimal heel lift when on toe edge (the liner has been heat molded and I've riden in them 4 days already), so I feel like the size 9 is great length-wise but the bones at metatarsalgia (ball of the feet) feels cramped and a little tight. Hi Wiredsport! Thanks for the information. Last season I was definitely riding a boot too big and suffered a lot of pain! I took my measures with left at 26cm length 9.75 cm width, and right at 25.7cm length and 10.35cm width (I skateboard and have a callus on my right pinky toe from ollieing which I think created this extra width and has resulted in a major hot spot in this area in my last season!). I suspect I am an 8EE then, sound correct? I also plan on buying custom insoles this season, as I have a really high arch and instep, do you think this would shrink the width measurements since I was on barefeet when taking them and a proper arch support would change my foots outline? Or would I still be a true EE? Given that, what boots would you recommend, I have been doing a lot of research on 32’s TM2 Wide and also looking at the Burton Ruler and Photon wide, any others to investigate? Thanks in advance!!

I just watched both video’s and took the measurements, my mondo was 269 and the width measurement was 100. Am I right I’m assuming that because the width measurement is one mm wider than the measurement for d on the width chart that I should be looking at the E column and get some wide boots or should I go with standard boots, my last pair of boots were us10.5 thirty two lashed. I only rode in them for 1 day due to elbow dislocation after a fall. I’d like to get the thirty two lashed again but in the correct size this time

Hey Wiredsport! 👋 I could need some advice after buying through your advice last time. Right foot... Mondo: 25cm | Width: 10,3cm Left foot... Mondo: 24,5cm | Width: 10cm I'll add some more valuable info below for insight. I've been using the Burton Ion Wide size EU40 (speed lacing) based on your recommendations last time (US 7). However, when I check the conversion tool it seems that translates to EU39, when Burton converts it to EU40, something I realised just now. Anyway. I use these with vacuum-heat-molded Superfeet Custom Carbon Winter soles (seated molding to prevent pronation). The liners themselves has never been heated. I use normal Stance snowboard socks inside my boots. PROBLEMS They've felt better than any other boot so far, except for what felt like my foot getting slightly compressed by the toe-box area being too narrow. I decided to keep them anyway, and after using them during this season the following has happened: - The toe-box has expanded and no longer squish my foot horizontally. (yay) - They've started to feel roomy, especially in the heel area. Since I have some room in front of the toes too, I can push my foot forward which leaves a lot of room around the heel. It honestly feels like I could've sized down, but I don't think the Burton Ions in Wide are sold in smaller sizes. - The boots now cause a mad painful pressure point on top of the insteps which has caused saddle bone deformities (bumps on the top of insteps) on both feet at the exact same spot. SOLUTIONS The plastic pieces housing the lower lacing section on the medial sides seems to cause the pressure points in addition to the boot naturally flexing "on top" of my foot instead of where the wrist naturally flexes. I've recently discovered that I'm able to successfully mediate the pressure point by cutting and placing pieces of soft foam yoga mat between the plastic pieces and the shell tongues. So that's something. To combat the roominess I will try to add J-bars, but I'm still waiting for these to get delivered. However, maybe I would actually need to look at a different model and/or size of boots? My Ions happen to be claimed for warranty too as the outside stitching around the toe-box deteriorated after very little use, so would be nice to know in what direction I'd like to move if things go my way. QUESTIONS I've ran through so many boots without luck, so my question is, would Ride Lasso Wide or ThirtyTwo TM-2 Wide be an option for me next season(OOS), or would they just be too narrow? - What about the Burton Rulers in Wide? I've read that the Rulers are roomy around the ankles and heel, and that's what I already feel with the Ions. I know they are softer, but that could be okay. Would Burton Rulers in size EU38 be too small? They happen to be the only option out there not OOS at the moment, and I couldn't find them in EU39. How does Burton Rulers Wide in EU40 compare to the Burton Ions Wide in EU40 I currently have? - And what about Nitro boots? I've heard they're quite wide, like the Nitro Venture. - I've also heard this years Photon are shaped differently and not just a different liner, what about that? - And lastly, might the heat molded soles be a villain in this drama? Sorry for the super long comment, but fingers crossed you can help me out here! 🤞

As I understand it, I am a mondo 255 and should have an E width boot, is that correct? I see you reccomend the Salomon Dialogue Dual Boa Wide, would you also recommend them in my situation? If so I am still uncertain on wich size on Salomons website i should add to cart. In there “find your fit” guide it seems like I should order a size 26 (foot length (mm) 252-256). They dont mention mondo. Further down on the side they mention the foot length measurement should be done with snowboard socks btw…

Okay so I followed your measurements and I'm 270mm L and 95mm W, I tried a size 11 boot and found it was pretty snug but had some heel left, I went down to a 10.5US and I've got quite a bit of toe pressure, but when I bend the knee I found my toes sit fine with movement, I tried wearing the boot for a bit to see if it molds to the natural heat, but have concerns it'll be too tight. According to the sizing website I should be wearing a 9.0 US, which I don't see how that'll physically work without it being extremely tight and causing pain. This was with Nitro Dark Seid boots. Hi, I will be happy to help. You're correct. Trying on a lot of boots can often lead people in the wrong direction, particularly newer riders. A boot will not take its final form until it has both been heat fit, and then riden for two weeks. it will pack out about one full shoe size in that period. For that reason, trying on a lot of boots can often be very misleading. You are a standard size 10 in snowboard boots. Please do note that if you have a bruised toenail now, that all boots will be uncomfortable until that heals. The bruising itself was almost certainly caused by your old boots being too large. @@wiredsport1 I agree 100%. I was just commenting that if I use your calculator it suggests that 275mm is a UK 8.5 snowboard size whereas Salomon suggest it is a snowboard size of UK 9. That was all I was trying to say - and apologies if I've interpreted it incorrectly. But yep. Mondo size is all that matters. Agree 100%. The problem often is some retailers don't list Mondo point which forces you to go and work out what size to order - in my case by visiting Salomon's website. For my example Salomon say that if in the range of 273-277mm you should order MP28/UK9. I was then able to use that to order UK9 from a retailer who had a great discount but only listed sizes and not Mondopoint. My new size Salomon boots (MP 28, UK9 ) fit very well so far testing the fit at home. I'll wait for now but I might do a thermal fit on the left liner as I'm feeling a very slight hot spot - too soon to say right now though so I'll wait until I've used the boots on some indoor snow in a few weeks time. Can't wait for next season! BTW - the 2 vids you have up about boot sizes are the best on KZread by miles!

Female here that rides in men's boots - they work well and are more responsive so thats a plus. If you veer towards boots like the Ride Fuse or similar with that heel hold boa that helps as well as a good footbed. We tend to have smaller heels, ankles, wider forefoot proportionality and our feet tend to have less volume so you may need a shim under your footbed. But highly recommend trying on men's boots if your feet are long enough.

It is important not to use shoe size as a metric at all. It is highly inaccurate. There are only 5 mm in any given boot size. If you are never getting readings above 26 cm then you are Mondo 260 but if you are getting readings above that, then you are 265 and should go with size 8.5. To respond to your early question, yes. They indicate that if your foot is wider than 107mm that you should get the wide boot version or a half size larger to compensate. It doesn’t say for what size but as I read it, it implies for all sizes. It makes sense that depending on your length, the width can be determined as wide, normal or narrow. 🤙🏽

@@tonnyj8510 I apologize, that was my attempt at humor. Not a real question. You are correct that no single measurement (107 mm in this example) could ever be correct to determine boot width for all foot lengths. Each foot length has its own range for Wide. 107 cm for instance is EEEE width at size 6 and standard width above 11 :)

Thanks for the video. Question: my barefoot length measurement is 29.5cm, and width is 13cm. From your measurement website my correct boot size would be 11.5. However the EEE width is only 12.2cm. Because I've found boots so painful I currently use a size 13 wide (Burton Ruler) boot to get closer to true width. But even those feel tight at times, as they're still 0.6cm too narrow. Any solutions to offer? I'm looking at moving to step on bindings, and the only wide boots available are the Burton Photon - expensive enough to make me reconsider. But sizing is the real challenge for me. Thanks!

Great video! I'm facing a problem with my boots that I believe are due to incorrect sizing. I measured my feet at the store and one of them measured 8.5 US while the other measured 9 US, not mondo. The sales rep said I should go with the 9s so I did. At the beginning they were a bit uncomfortable but not unbearable. 15 days of heavy riding later and they are now big. I have significant heel lift, and my toes barely touch the front of the liner. As a result I now have to crank down on my boa to make them tight, which really hurts. I get foot fatigue just by doing a couple of 10 minute runs and it really ruins my day. To make things worse, I had seen your snowboard boot sizer website before and I think it said I should get a size 8 or 8.5 US. I thought it was odd given it's 1-1.5 size smaller than my sneakers size. I thought the store was using the same method. I now wish I had followed your advice!

Thank you for this video. I have a question, is there a reason for not measuring your feet with snowboard socks on?

  • @wiredsport1

    @wiredsport1

    Жыл бұрын

You bet. We need to take the variability of sock dimensions out of the equation. Snowboard boots are designed to be worn with a very thin snowboard sock. The idea that a thick sock or multiple socks will add warmth is incorrect. Warmth is primarily the job of the boot liner. Extra socks or overly thick socks will overheat your foot leading to perspiration. A damp foot is a cold foot. Additionally, socks do not have the same support as a well-designed and properly fit boot liner.

@@wiredsport1 Oh wow that makes sense, but I'm still mind blown a little bit. In my case, my foot measurements are L267mm W99mm, I feel I'm in the cusp between snowboard boot sizes 8.5 and 9. I've been wearing size 9 and my toes are always able to barely scratch the boot liner front without bending, but that's with snowboard socks on (my socks brand is Stance). I fear as the liner gets packed out over time, it may create extra space. Do you have a judgement call on my boot size based on my info? Or recommendation of snowboard socks brand? Thank you.

Hello, Did try the method and it is not working for me. Measurements using the method. (taken with great care) Both feet around 94-95mm of width. Left length 244mm Right length 254mm (I know a full cm longer is really not ideal) According to the tool I'm a 7.5US (men) or mondo of 254 (and a 6.5 on the left foot) Same from the Burton chart. My son as a pair of 8 of Burton Step ON Swath for men (brand new). They should be too much for me. However, it is not working for me. The left foot is kinda Spot on in terms of lenght. (I'm supposed to be around a 6.5 on this one) The toe is slightly touching the liner and I'm feeling kinda comfortable. (when outside of the binding) The right foot is not working at all. Supposed to be a 7.5 and I have the big toe cramped and feeling really uncomfortable in the 8. Would need at least an 8.5 and probably a 9. ALso on both feet, feeling pressure point on both sides of the toes of every foot when clipped into the Step On binding although I'm supposed to be an average width. Did I miss something? Any advise? And BTW, yes the booths were fully tighten, liner and boas with the Heel push back. I know the boots are new but it is really tight and they are supposed to be a half size too big. Thanks a lot for your time. Kind of lost and really don't want to buy too big but at least must feel comfortable and rideable. In the past, I had boots too lengthy and had severe heel lift. Coming back at snowboarding after 20 years or so...
