How to measure coupling coefficient between two coils / windings

In this video I briefly discuss how to measure coupling coefficient between two coils. Basics of coupled inductors is also shortly explained.
Finance: N=48
subs=1533
Available budget (N): 1533-100-48*(48+1)=-919
Storage limit: 2^ln(1533)=161,45

    your video is very helpful,can you measure the secondary coupling coil ,Just to prove that the second coil can also test the same K。

    It would be good to investigate the effect of frequency on M and k.

    Very nicely explained. I have two questions. What if there are multiple secondary windings? Also, if the transformer is a resonant topology one (inductance would change with frequency). So at which frequency it must be tested? Thanks.

    Thanks, use the same approach for multiple coils. when doing measurement to get coupling between two coils, the other coils must be kept open. Inductance is frequency dependent, so your best bet is to do the measurement at or near the frequency of your switching, or alternatively you must make a frequency dependent model which makes it more complex.

    Nice and valuable material :) IMHO try to pronounce "w" not like "v", because "we" sounds like "V" in this vid IMHO2 really nice voice, Dude ;)

    Thanks for the comment. Indeed my accent needs a big surgery🤣. After reading your comment i tried to see how the correct pronunciation sounds like. I used google translator and typed "We like that" and "V like that", when google pronounced these two, to my ears they sounded very similar. Then I searched on google and found a youtube video which has explained it properly: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pI2as6WsZ5mTdLw.html

    Thanks for the explanations. It was good but what is the significance of this parameter? Why do we care about it?

    Thanks for the comment. For example if you design a wireless power transfer device using induction, the coupling between coils plays an important role in design and efficiency of the system. This factor can also give us similar information as leakage inductance. leakage inductance can have impact on efficiency, also for large power transformers it limits the short circuit current. For spark gap Tesla coils it has an impact on wave damping and so it is important for the whole design, usually a weak coupling is preferred. While for solid state Tesla coil you want to have high coupling factor. An ideal transformer has a coupling factor of 1.

    Hi Sir, do you write a paper for this or refer to other paper? If yes, could you provide it? Thank you. Thanks for excellent explanation by using a video.

    Hi, I did not use other references, and I am not going to write a paper on this (this is basic stuff and is available in books). I just drove it myself since I saw the final formula in Wikipedia and was wondering why that is so, so I decided to make it more clear for other people. Anyway, in case you want to reference this in your work, you can just reference this video😇, it is possible.

    Can you make a video about rewinding a ferrite core transformer (ATX power supply transformer)

    Hi, in the future I will make a video series about transformer design and which parameters are of concern. Only rewinding a transformer is not that of interest. Its details that matter 😋
