How to Measure Body Fat (IN HOME METHOD!)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Decrease your body fat and maximize lean muscle with this program
athleanx.com/x/program-to-buil...
Learning how to measure body fat at home is one of the best skills you will learn to assist you in your fitness transformation. Relying on the scale is simply not an accurate way to gauge progress since lifting weights is likely going to cause you to gain weight while you may be dramatically lowering your body fat percentage. A scale could make you think you are off track on your way to your lean goals.
Instead, mastering your measuring abilities of your own body fat will help you to determine your true progress. In this video, I show you how to measure your body fat yourself in your own home to figure out how close you are to your six pack abs. One method is more expensive than the other, however when you realize just how important this number will be to your progress, you may just find a way to add this tool to your gym equipment.
First, skin fold calipers are a classic home testing option. Are they the most accurate? No. However, they are the most readily available and don’t require the set up that a DEXA scan would. The tradeoff in accuracy is not that high, given that as you become more skilled in pinching…your accuracy could be within 1-3% of the exact number.
If you would rather use a more economical method for testing your body fat level at home however, you can easily do that as well. When you realize just what calipers are testing it becomes very easy to see how you can do this with a simple fifty cent tape measure. Calipers are literally measuring the thickness of the skin fold that you pinch when doing your body fat measurements.
If you can (easier when you enlist the help of someone else) simply pinch in the locations shown in this video and use a standard tape measure to mark out the thickness of the fold. Average out the results performed on your chest, abdomen and thigh and determine your body fat with this chart:
Ellington Darden:
1/4 inch pinch is 5 to 8 percent body fat
1/2 inch pinch is 9 to 13 percent body fat
3/4 inch pinch is 14 to 18 percent body fat
1 inch pinch is 19 to 22 percent body fat
1 1/2 inch pinch is 23 to 27 percent body fat
2 inch pinch is 28 to 32 percent body fat
2 1/2 inch pinch is 33 percent body fat and up
Alternatively, if you get your skin fold measurements either with a caliper or with the old fashioned tape measure method you can input them at www.escablo.com/en/app/Body-F... to determine your current level of body fat.
For a complete workout and nutrition program geared at helping you to maximize every ounce of lean muscle you can build while minimizing your body fat, be sure to head to athleanx.com and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System.

@@ankitarya4799 well, how does this thing know my body fat percentage off of my bmi and age? Doesn't make any sense. I can weigh 57kg and have very little amount of lean mass, meaning my body fat percentage is higher, can also have more muscle mass equals less fat. Great x'D sorry, no hate, just not seeing any rhyme or reason in this thing.

Julia Kirsty bruh I thought the same thing lmao how could it know bf from BMI and age? IMO BMI is dumb as well because someone who is heavy is “obese” according to BMI but what if you’re heavy because you’re jacked? Doesn’t make any sense.

Visible upper and middle abs, no love handles and the lower 'v' cut is coming in! 5 months of avg 300 cal deficit and probably another 6 weeks til im absolutely happy with my physique. :D Steady progress is the goal bros! There is also another easy method... all you need is a sharp knife, a pyrex graded lab vial & a hot stove. Step 1: With a sharp knife, slice a section of your belly fat & put it in the vial Step 2: Heat up the vial so the fat melts into liquid Step 3: Measure the quantity of fat in milliliters & compare it to the volume of the section you sliced (bigger section = more accurate measure) Step 4: Do some math & numbers and stuff... & bam: you got an accurate body fat measure AND you now have less body fat to boot.

+fightnight14 The only way to know for certain you're losing muscle, is to measure it. Are you saying when you lose weight you feel weak? That's very different, and likely due to micro nutrients not being replenished. Salt, magnesium, etc. The body doesn't catabolize muscle when other energy sources are present, it takes the path of least resistance to being fueled. That said, you need a minimum amount of protein for maintenance. If you have that, and it is a lot less than people might think, then you not losing lean mass. Look at your diet as a whole, not the calories, but the nutrients and you may find what you're looking for.

For some crazy reason, the simple 1 point test by Accu-measure is amazingly closer to how I actually look. I'm averaging 5.5% with the 3 pt. test and 9% with accu-measure...which is about right. That popping 6-pack is still not quite there, but I am 47 & need to do more ab work.

Thank you Jeff. Been trying to find an accurate way to measure BMI. All these BMI calculator apps just ask for height and weight and tell me I'm overweight with 25.1% body fat. That s not right. I'm 6 feet 4 inch. and 206 lbs. With a slightly visible 5 pack. And popping obliques. You helped me out a lot with this video. been a subscriber for a long time now and surprised I've never seen this vid.

I've been fascinated with changing body fat levels. I lack consistency though. Caliper measurements will put my abdominal fat in the 19-22% range while my arms, chest, and quads get down to the 10% range. I tried using air displacement (the Bod Pod) and it put me at 31% overall. I can tell by looking in the mirror that 31% was too high. I have some visible abdominal muscles. The week after recording 31% in the Pod, I had underwater weighing. That test came back placing me in the range of 19-21%. I'm more of a strength trainer so I don't need to go down to single digits but I've found that I look my best around 12-15%.

Incline (torso elevated at an angle) dumbbell or barbell bench press. If you lack equipment, you can work upper chest with decline (feet elevated) push ups. You just put your feet up on some stairs. I started on the 2nd step and now do them on the 3rd step with a 60 lbs weighted vest. Not as good as heavy incline bench press, but you can get an OK workout with "rest pause" training (high volume first set quickly followed by four low volume sets, only 15 sec rest in between).

Hey Jeff, thanks again for another video but I was wondering if you could help me out with a problem I've been having. I have this constant pinch just inferior of my left sit-bone and now after several months of compensating, I am begging to have this problem on my right sit-bone now. This happens whenever I sit down and its becoming a major problem since sitting through a 90 minutes lecture is becoming nearly impossible but this pinch radiants through down my thigh and I notice my upper thigh where my hamstrings meet my glute is very sensitive and tender so if I may borrow some of your knowledge so I can return to not only working out my legs but to just sit down without having to get up every 5 minutes, I would really appreciate it.
