Just did this a few years ago: Down sized on home. Paid off all debt. Make coffee at home. Make lunches for work. Mix and match new and older clothing. Stopped entertaining big crowds. Stopped believing in highly branded clothing, bags and shoes. Vacation in the US only. I could continue with more, but most importantly we are happy and healthy and that matters most in life.

Divorce and then two years later bankruptcy is what led me to get on top of my finances. I told myself I would never depend on a man again for money. This not only led me to become a saver and investor but also allows me to go into relationships not looking for a prince charming because that's not fair for the man either.

The "know your networth" action step actually blew my mind. I have NO idea what my number is and that made me realize that the term "net worth" was associated with "rich people" in my mind. I'll be calculating mine ASAP. I LOVED this. This is the most cryatal-clear message I've ever heard on finance. Thanks so much for bringing this. I'll be coming back to this many times.

This was en pointe. Calculate Net Worth😱 1. Eye opener to "increase savings" to avoid more exposure to debt. 2. Reduce spending 3. Live below means (in line with my "minimum" lifestyle I am working on for 2019) 4. Save for Curve balls Best of all I AM A SAVER and ordering the book. Thank you for the "bridge job" idea. This is a game changer😉

The emotional attachment to the view of money is so important. I would get so nervous looking at my debt but once I started paying my debt, I actually felt better, and more confident! Thank you so much for this video and educating us about the importance of money in life. Media has definitely made it harder to feel like you don't have enough, so it's nice to be reminded of what you actually don't need,

I love this video, and I'll be honest, I always avoid "financial tips" videos (even on this channel) because I am so scared to confront my true relationship with money. I love the idea of treating financial matters like a video game--something that is not life or death, something that anyone can restart. And I love Amanda's parting words. I hope, in due time, I'll be able to settle my finances and have a healthy relationship with money.

Jessica Vasquez True, but at least it’s a bit easier when you make more than enough to cover expenses and still have a life. Many people think making more money will not make them happy. I, for one, think making more money is just as valid as saving, managing, and investing for happiness. If you don’t make much, you can’t save or invest. If you make minimum wage in a metro area like SF, chances are you will never dig yourself out of the hole you are in financially. Making more money involves personal and professional growth. Life gets better when you make more money.

I have several careers..but always unhappy and depressed working under chiefs(woman) who bossed me ...colleagues mobbed me for being better than them in so many ways..I got psychically and body-sick in 3 different jobs , then a Burnout and a big big work pause..thinking about all....I focused in my inner world, thinking: what makes my heart happy...talking with different people....I had with 25 years thousands of MINUS on my bank account..but you cn only learn if you make mistakes.........so proud of every single Woman who makes her dream come true. Without discipline, self-love, self-worth, patience, gutt-connection, ., humour, , health in general, etc.this all is not possible. But COURAGE is for me the KEYWORD!!!! Money "makes you stronger". I really needed that. I loved how she moved out of a house to a tiny appartment so she can live the life she wanted. I grew up being comfortable in life thanks to my dad s job and I took it for granted. So I became a spender more than a saver and priviledged my education over any professional work because it was such a privilege in my family. But when my father decided to become an entrepreneur plus the fact that I went to get a typical indian marriage, my financial situation was and still is uncomfortable. I learned all the tricks to save save save and save. Yet my little brother who learned from it sooner got a job when studying and has the habit of saving. I promised myself that I would be more responsible and here this video appears. This is so good to hear now. Thanks for the video Marie ! As one of the tricks I learned against silver hair for a brown haired person, henna is awesome for undyed hair and cheaper, humble opinion ^^

Hi Marie and Amanda! I loved this episode and the first time you had Amanda on Marie TV back in the day! My husband and I are almost debt-free. Once we pay off our truck ($5k left) we'll have ZERO debt! Yay! So the thing that stood out to me most was the conversation around net worth. I've never really thought about that...ever. So my next step I think is to start investing once we have that debt paid off. Thankfully, we've got a $1k emergency fund, own one other vehicle, and are renting. Our owned assests are modest, but they are growing. A big turning point for us was starting to give 10% of our income every month and once we started doing that, I found that my relationship to money became so much healthier than it ever had been. My goal is to be able to be debt free, to give generously, and to live well below my means, like Amanda. Thanks so much for this great episode! XO, Bri

My biggest takeaway is the concept of a "50% job" or "bridge job" - I am working full time, raising two kids under 4, and would love to start a spiritual coaching business... but unless I take time away from my kids, which is already limited due to the FT job, or work in the middle of the night (when most coaching clients aren't available! At least in the US), this isn't very realistic for me. However, if I were to cut back to a part time job or start freelancing I could free up the time I need! So my action step is to find a part time job or freelancing opportunities that will free up more time for my passion project and to allow more energy to flow into my creativity rather than just a paycheck.

Thank you! Many things hit home for me....in particular the throwing money at debt to pay it off....I did that last year...paid it off, which felt great, however I think I always knew it would have been better to save, especially since I'm a freelancer living month to month, etc. My next move is to be a saver (still work on uping my earning) but moving my focus looking to reduce my expenses, look at money as a game, question why I want/need something and what society pressures I'm falling for. Thank you again!!!!!

Thanks Marie, I have been practicing most of these principles for some time and the thing I felt encouraged about was to have more 'fun' with my management of money and treat it like a game. I kinda do that with money boxes (a habit from childhood) but you prompted me to think of some new ways - that's tops!! On another level, I was curious that there was no discussion around "tithing" to a charity for giving back to the community and being generous. This is a Biblical principle that many people not just entrepreneurs practice world wide. I would appreciate your view on this.

Tanya Baldwin how do you come to the conclusion that debt is not a bad thing? If you have rented something at 21% interest, it is taking dollars out of your pocket, and forever lowering your purchase power. Until you have paid that off, you're continuing to rent whatever you purchased at 21%. The goal is to pay it off as quickly as possible without killing yourself

I related when both of you talked about paying of debts before saving. Up to now, I used to try to pay off my debt as soon as money flowed in. But now I am commited to starting my savings account and prioritizing that before debt.

    1. Understand your networth: your savings account, anything of value, cash etc.. what are your assets? 2. Figure how much do you owe: then subtract what you own from what you owe. (you may have a zero/positive/negative networth!) 3. START SAVING at least 1 month instead of throwing it to your debt, reduce expenses, live below your means and build assets to produce future income without having to work for it.

Marie & Amanda, os amo! Such a Great episode, in content and energy! Thanks to both for sharing your wisdom. My superpower is frugality and saving. I do it naturally, without thinking. Would you please, please, please, make an episode on how to feel OK to go after high pay jobs, even if it means changing career and how to get rid of the fear of pursuing The Money in a healthy and dignified way. Thank you so much for TV Marie!

This 31:45 video is one of the best investment I made! Taking time to think about my Money Belief System and choose to reframe it was really valuable. 💃 The Saving Slide is my favorite insight. Love it. I can’t wait to save. Groceries sounds fun now. Thank you.

There is probably a comment on this already, but what is coming to mind as I'm hearing the discussion on emergency savings (14:45), are all the times I've managed to have some kind of savings buffer, only to encounter those circumstances that wiped it back out again. It took me a long time or else unique windfall to get hold of such funds; it's frustrating and discouraging to have to start over, repeatedly! I will say, the one (the only) savings approach that has worked to not have it deplete like that is a CD, which I can't touch without a fine. Better than nothing! Baby steps out of the repeating looks, I suppose. At what point though does the actual getting ahead come in? Lol. I'll keep watching ;) (Thanks Marie for the amazing questions! And Amanda for sharing these insights. Appreciate you both!)

I’m really good at budgeting when I feel like I’m making enough to cover my bills, but often I find that I’m making less than that. I think it’s time to start making more income now. It’s especially tough now that I am a stay at home mom and my kids’ dad travels for work. I work part time and am JUST making more than I pay in childcare costs. I’m definitely like you, Marie. I need to not be stressed in order for my creative juices to flow. So I will start doing the affirmation that money comes quickly and easily to me, working more hours, and adding to my savings and “life tax” accounts again. Thanks for this video.

What I learner and took away from it: 1) MF you are amazing! And your guests are always amazing! This might be one of my faves! Action taken: shared this with my beautiful souls sister who will really appreciate it 2) Managing money and getting good money habits is really a journey into our own behaviours and can have many practices which defer for everyone - net worth is not a determinant of self worth, but the practices around the mentality of money can be very closely tied to how we value ourselves. Let's treat ourselves with patience, care and thoughtfulness. Action: read the book and apply principles Much Love!

Thank you so much for this video. It was something I really needed right now. The most helpful was the two tips. Create a savings account and knowing your primary asset. I am in debt, not much but I have a negative connotation with debt, which has put me in a circle of paying it off then getting back into debt. Learning these steps will definitely help with my management of money and creating wealth that lasts. Thank You!!! PS: I love the Curve Ball Account idea!! ☺️👍🏻❤️🙏🏼

This is an episode that I will listen to again just to take notes. I have an idea of wanting to downsize into an apartment or tiny house with my family. The problems I face with that are I run my baking & catering businesses from home. I had a store and closed it almost 2 years ago. I also live in an area that is convenient for clients to pick up. With the housing market being so good right now in Montreal, I will make when selling but pay high when buying or renting for that matter. That means moving further and therefore making it harder on my clients. Let's through in the the price of gas is nuts here, so offering convenience to my clients and myself is important. I feel kinda stuck in how to make any move. Any thoughts ladies? Great episode ❤️ Tanya

The most important insight for me was to start a bridge job, but the thing about that is I really don't like the official environment here. I'm 25 and have never worked a job, have always been freelancing. So I'm still unsure as to what is that step I can take right away, but keep posting, your next video might just clear my head up!

I'm keeping a spending journal and have no spend days to stretch it out. At the moment I don't quite 'get' where I'm at, but getting a better 💡 idea gradually. I think I may be in the red, but if I keep learning - eventually I'll be in the green. I've tried talking about money and earning 💰 with friends, but unfortunately their beliefs and attitudes about it make it nearly impossible and I feel shamed for wanting wealth and to be a philanthropist, volunteer, entrepreneur, business owner. I was even shamed for investing in learning a language, which is really good for the brain. Why do people see money 💰 as a dirty word? why is it associated with greed? Greed can happen either rich or poor 💩 or anywhere between. Whereas you can be very giving if you have an overflowing cup both financially and emotionally and so on.
