We just bought a 2017 Denali lite 5th wheel M2445RL a few days ago. Before hitching it up for the 1.5 hr trip home, we watched as the seller demonstrated how to extend and retract the (1) slide out. There were no apparent issues with the slide out. Once we got home & attempted to extend the slide out, it wouldn’t budge, and the tv battery was low. We connected to shore power and let the battery charge over the last 30 hours. It appears to be rack & pinion slide out. We hope to try again tomorrow to extend the slide out. If we have to use the manual override, I understand that the battery should be disconnected first. Right? Any further suggestions?

I would recommend taking a voltmeter to the battery to test it after charging. If the battery isn't holding a charge, you'll want to replace it. You are correct in that you'll want to disconnect the battery before manually moving to prevent any potential backfeed. I would also check the fuse box to make sure nothing tripped and a fuse didn't blow during your trip home. Hope that helps and good luck! -Ian Baker

Regarding the Schwintek slide, how do you manually operate it if the battery is dead?

Hey Steve, Ian Baker here. In that event, you’d need to unplug the connectors on both side of the control panel. This will disconnect the brake motors and allow you to manually push the slide in. Hope this helps! -Ian Baker

@@campingworld This is the advice I was looking for. Something is wrong with the switch in my RV so even using it after the override wasn't working. Hopefully this will work and I can just push the sliders in.

@@campingworld The title of your video says you were going to show how to manually operate all these slide systems. Can't take an RV to the dealer if it's stuck out at a campground.

Great info but they really don't make it easy on the 2021 KEYSTONE PASSPORT 240BH I jus bought. Gotta rip front board off to get to the motor. They shoulda made the center crown piece removable!

Hi There! This technically is only intended for manually retracting an RV slide-out. If yours isn't extending as intended (when operating according to the manufacturer's instructions), then it's best to manually retract it and schedule an appointment to have it inspected by a certified technician. Hey Dannie, Ian Baker here. If you have a Shwintek slide, you’ll need to unplug the connectors on both sides of the control panel. This will disconnect the brake motors and allow you to manually push the slide in. Depending on the size of the slide, it may require several people to push in. Hope this helps! -Ian Baker

So in the real world where you only have six inches between the top of the slide out and the ceiling exactly how are you supposed to reach the motor on a cable slide when the slide is fully retracted? 🤷‍♂️

Hi There! It is going to be a bit of a tough reach. A step ladder can help, but some models are constructed in a way that requires removing the inner fascia of the slide to get access to the motor, which then means you'll need to re-install once repairs are complete. What year, make, and model are you working on?

My slide is stuck in and motor turns with power. Gear box is bad.
