    I’m so happy to find a recipe that doesn’t require ultra-filtered milk. A lot of the reason I want to make yoghurt is to use up a surplus of milk, so this is perfect! Thank you!

    Glad to hear this helps. I always use our regular full-fat/3.5% fresh milk for this recipe. I buy a full gallon and when I notice we won’t drink it all in time, it gets turned into yogurt. Just made a new batch yesterday

    If you can custom set it the ideal yogurt incubation temperature is 108-112F or 42-45C

    Hmm not sure. Is there another setting on your pot that would keep the temperature at around 110-115F or around 45C? You would incubate it at that setting then

    I know one simple way to Keep the milk warm, people do it like this in Greece: Just cover the pot, that contains the milk, with blankets,it will stay warm for hours.

    Do you need to use whole milk? We only use 1% milk

  • @Leelalicious

    @Leelalicious

    Yes, 1% milk is fine. Any percentage milk will work. Less milk fat just usually means thinner yogurt. You can strain some of they whey later to thicken the yogurt, or add a little powdered milk or gelatin powder to the milk.

    Hi, I am trying to make the yoghurt in the mason jars, I have 3 1 quart jars, i followed the instructions and it is not heating the milk to 180F only 146F. I have done this 3 time at one minute, does it take longer because I am using large jars> Thanks Parvaneh

    I have never tried it in big quart jars. I either make a big batch in the pot or use small jars for pot-in-pot method so I can’t give advise on that

    @@Leelalicious I was able to get 3 jars in the IP and with the pressure lid to the right temperature, 4 do not fit with the big lid, too tall to close. so I heated the contents of one jar on the stove and let all the jars cool, and then I was able to place all 4 in my 8 quart IP, I placed a tea towel and then the glass lid and set the yoghurt to 18 hours...it worked. 🙂

    I haven't tried it personally, but I've seen yogurt maker recipes that use evaporated milk diluted with an equal amount of filtered water. I believe there is no need to scald the milk first either then. You can just mix in your starter yogurt and set it to incubate.

    No I never add salt for yogurt making. If you like the flavor of salted yogurt, you could add it afterwards. I wouldn’t add it for incubation so as to not interfere with the yogurt cultures doing their work

    Too many steps for me! I use the cold start method using ultra filtered milk (2% or whole) and starter. I half the recipe. Mix then pour into Mason jars, place the lids on but not the rings. Use a large stoneware plate to cover the instant pot. Press Yogurt (Normal) and set for 8 hours. Then put the jars on a plate in the frig overnight. Add maple syrup, fruit and granola to the yogurt when I'm ready to eat it. Super easy!😃
