How To make This New Leather Belt “The Diamond Back” - Easy Handmade Leather Belt
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In today’s video I will be creating a tooled leather belt. The leather that I am using is from Montana Leather. It is the Vaqueta line of dyed Vegtan leather. One of the great things about this leather is that you do not need to dye it. This saves time, mess, and money. I did use the antique finish from Fiebing’s to highlight the diamond tooling design. The beautiful buckle is also from Montana Leather. Here is a link to the leather and other items used in today’s video.

I found that the dyed leather cases nicely and tools well. The color is crisp, clear and I think the belt turned out great. I will show you how to create the tooling pattern and each step of the process. If you did not want to tool leather then you could use the same design to create an easy gift.
Thanks for watching my videos today.

Never think your videos are to long. Whoever came up with that doesn't know anything about audience retention. Content content content. If your content is good, you can go 5 hours.❤

Thanks for the note. I am always asking myself if I should edit parts out. Your comment is encouraging
I didn’t care for the color to begin with but your many talents turn it into a beautiful piece. Very well done

Thanks Rick. It could easily be made in many other color combinations.
I was questioning the color at the beginning but I should have known you’d turn it into a work of art. Awesome looking belt!

Thanks! I do like how it came out. Will be make another one soon.
That turned out to be a very classy belt Robert. I liked the subdued finish the antique imparted on the blue leather. Thanks too for the tips on how you store and use Resoline. That is most helpful.

Thanks! You know it’s a good thing that I made that belt not in my size. I would have had an even more hard time sending it to Montana Leather. I will probably need to make one for myself.

Sounds great! I hope that Montana Leather is enjoying the videos. Have a great balance to your week.
I tried the shoe polish in lieu of antique gel. It isn't the same. 😂 It is fun to experiment on some scrap leather. I love the stamping design and your colour mix. The belt looks sharp!

@@InMyBusyLittleShop It did absolutely and your welcome. Love your channel!
Just found your channel. Really impressed with your videos! You speak extremely clear and to the point with a ton of information. So far, after watching 5 of your videos, I'm hooked. I have a question about hand sewing the belt. I think hand stitches look 100 times better than a sewing machine stitches. My question is, how long of thread do you work with at a time and how to you finish and start your sewing when your length is used up. I've tried using a wing span length but don't know how to finish the 1st wing span and start the 2nd wing span. I'd love to see you actually do it in a viseo. Thank you very much!!!! Jim

Thanks for subscribing James! I appreciate your time and comments/questions. I agree on the look of the hand stitching. Last year I purchased a sewing machine that would sew the belts. I purchased the sewing machine for sewing bags. As long as I can, I will hand stitch my belts. I use just two lengths of thread for each belt. One for each side. The thread is 3.5 to 4 times the length the area to sew. I start sewing at the tip and finish them off on the backside of the belt in the buckle end. The result is that you don’t see the ends. I stitch the belts standing up and the result of my set-up is that the thread isn’t on the floor much. I hope this answers your question

@@InMyBusyLittleShop I had tried the full length way but did it while sitting. I had numerous problems with the thread getting all tangled up. Spent a lot of time untangling the thread. After several belts, I bought a CLSP and learned how to do it with it. It's a lot easier, but I don't like the finished look. I guess it's time to make another belt. Thank you for your information and your videos! Jim

@@jameslanza3269 my first 35ish belts were sewn in my lap. It’s a bit of a challenge. The biggest issue that I had was it was slower and had variations in how the stitching looked. In some ways I miss hand sewing in my lap. It was something to do in the evening while watching TV. It’s slower because I always had one hand holding the belt. When I purchased the bench mounted pony it really improved the consistency of the stitching and along with that the speed. I hope you have a great week
Another informative video. Great looking belt. Very impressed with the leather. What make of diamond stamp was used. Thanks

Hey! Freddie!
Robert when you measured from the bend why didn’t you account for the buckle. I’m a bit confused. Since the 40” is from the inside of the buckle to the middle hole I usually account for that space.
@InMyBusyLittleShop
Ай бұрын
Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I add 10” to the measured belt size for the person. Of that extra 10” I use 3.5” to create the bend over at the buckle end. The remaining 6.5 inches is at the tip of the belt. So a 40” belt requires a 50” belt blank.
Greetings! What kind of splitter did you invest in?

That is the economy splitter from Weaver. Picked it up on a 25 percent off sale around black Friday a few years ago.
