I am currently making a very similar one for myself -only I have an 8mm hardened steel shaft 200mm long and two cast iron bases from the $5 helping hands. I drilled out the exising 1/4" (6mm) spigots to 8.5 mm, and drilled a 3.2mm hole tapped to 4mm so that both bases can be moved. When it's completed , I will post a link to the finished item. Thanks Daniele for the inspiration to make this, as the $5 Chinesium one is pretty useless!
