How to Make the World a Better Place | Bjørn Lomborg and Ralph Schoellhammer | EP 285

Dr. Peterson's extensive catalog is available now on DailyWire+: utm.io/ueSXh
Leftist politicians and the “intellectual elite” prioritize a vague plan for saving earth over the lives of struggling people all over the world. Governments are being forced to press their citizens, straining already fragile economic and agricultural systems, in order to appease a globalist utopian vision. Bjørn Lomborg and Ralph Schoellhammer sit down with Dr Jordan B Peterson to discuss the faults in this plan, and the people who are suffering because of it.
Bjørn Lomborg is a Danish author, having written numerous books on climate change such as “False Alarm,” “The Skeptical Environmentalist,” and “How to Spend $75 Billion to Make the World a Better Place.” He is the president of the think tank Copenhagen Consensus Center that focuses on doing the most good, for the most people, with increasingly limited budgets. Previously, Lomborg was the director of the Danish government's Environmental Assessment Institute.
Ralph Schoellhammer is a scholar and journalist operating in Europe who has diligently covered overlooked stories such as the Dutch Farmers Protest. He is also an assistant Professor of international relations at Webster Vienna Private University, and produces a podcast following political psychology and institutionalism called the Global Wire.

50 years from now: We saved the planet that was never at risk, and only 95% of us died achieving this great feat. The questions never asked: Did we ever look back to see if what we are doing does more harm to the environment than good? Where is the money going? Who is profiting from this environmental fearmongering? Are we simply moving our waste stream to a 3rd world nation and community rather than actually solving the issues? When mandating things like electric vehicle use; are we also not thereby mandating human and child slave labor in Africa for the needed minerals? Do we have environmentally friendly and sustainable waste streams for solar panels, wind mills and electric vehicles?

@@JM-mh1pp Simple: Because it's more about feeling like we are doing good and less about actually ensuring we are doing good. It's the optics that win out in the end - we, in the aggregate, just choose to not look. It's like chocolate: We know they use child slave labor to harvest the cocoa beans, (apparently those Black lives don't matter) but we still want our chocolate, so we choose or pretend ignorance. I'm not saying we cannot have both, but generations of experience shows that we only choose what is convenient, or whatever makes the most profit for someone; as long as those who do the suffering are unknown to us.

Germany most of all and later the rest of Europe. In the digital age this advanteges parrished. Not in the least because of wrong policies from our partners in Europe and oversees. Nothing lasts forever. I pray for the day, that nasty EU is breaking apart. Don't get me wrong. Although, I am - at first - a nationalist, I still love Europe (in opposite of EUrope) and thus my brothers and sisters who are similiarly socialized is I am (i.e. being christians or at least christian socialized atheists). The real sorrow I have right now, is that it's us Europeans (and I do mean us as an ethnicity or better: multiple ethnicities which are pretty related to each other), who will get replaced by africans and arabs which have so few in common with our traditions, our cultures, our religious socialization and our values. They speak about "diversity". But as Petre Scholl-Latour once said (I try to translate): "He who gives refuge to half of Kolkata, does not help Kolkata, but instead BECOMES Kolkata." If you take a look at the fertility rates of migrants from those cultures, they are so much higher than ours are, that we will be replaced by them in few generations. There are years, when "Mohammed" is already the most popular name of newborn children in the hospitals of Berlin. And it looks similiar in most (if not all) german major cities... So, if you take a look at the motivation to work hard and learn a lot in school of those foreign ethnicities, you can be sure, that this "cutting of (sic) the legs of the fastest runners" is only the beginning. In the end, they will have cut off the legs of ALL but the very, very slowest of runners... There seems to be data around that migrants of those cultures are a netto loss to the western societies, in general, when it comes to the average income. They can hardly keep up with the standards of the modern work places. So they will remain the loosers, in the end. Although maybe wealthier than in their home countries (because they get money from the wellfare state), much poorer than the average western, indigineous worker. And this will make them resentment driven hostile towards us and thus destabilize all our countries. That's no theory, it already happens. There are parts of Germany's major cities where even the police hesitates to get in, because they are in the grip of foreign clans/ethnicities. Or take a look at London, where the whole cities seems to have degenerated into... well... Kolkata...

Excellent discussion and conversation. I have only just returned from two months in Europe and I can stand by what Ralph had to say. I read the local newspapers and found indeed a gloomy outlook for the future, a sense of fatigue with refugees and asylum seekers who are not grateful but demand and a feeling of being fed up with the government. However, no one wants to put their hand up and stand for office, for people think Brussels calls the shots so why bother?

I live in Europe and the only reason I have peace of mind is that my family has a house (not renting) and we have a plot for growing food. We have firewood and a well, which will eventually be connected to a natural filter. I spent a few years preparing because I knew something like this would happen. The migrants have good reason to not be grateful. The immigration process in to Europe is disgustingly badly managed and neglected. There is no effort to help with integration. I experienced it first hand through my girlfriend and Russian coworker who have struggled with their visa situation for 3 years, having to essentially sculpt their lives around their immigration process. It's terrible. These are really amazing, smart people who are treated like cattle. Yes, eventually it will turn in to massive portion of Europe being resentful because they are the workforce. Most low skill work is done by African, SE Asian and Middle eastern migrants, who are consistently disrespected and cut off from the rest of society. Bad karma unfolding before our eyes.

@@MrMadalien If migrants came via the formal process of immigration they may well have fewer problems than those who turn up on a country's doorstep and claim asylum or persecution. The Dutch have a reputation of being a free country and open to newcomers, but even they seem to have reached a point of exhaustion. Their own children have to register straight out of school for housing but are put on a waiting list for up to eight years, while those who knock on the door, do not speak the language, don't know anything about that country's laws and regulations and may or may not have an education, yet demand to be taken in, be given the same privileges and be taken care of. And if they don't get it allegations of racism and being homophobic etc. are made. If those Western and Northern European countries are so horrible why don't those migrants stay where they, presumably, were so happy?

Great conversation, such a relief to know that such sensible people like you still exist. Even better to hear you exchange thoughts and wisdom. I feel wiser after hearing this, and as a Dutch person I'm very impressed with your knowledge and relaying of the situation in our tiny post stamp country. I hope more people IN this country will take in some of your wisdom. Thank you gentlemen!

“We are privileged here in the West, and the way we atone for that is by being people whose lives justify our provision of resources and our God-given talents.” This is the message our children desperately need to hear right now in Canada.

Please read the Book of Revelation! People must finally realize that we are living in the END times, the rapture and the 7 tribulation with the world ruler (Antichrist, 666!) are right around the corner. If you know the biblical prophecies of the end times and the plans of the NWO, you can easily see what is happening in the world. There is hope: accept JESUS CHRIST as your Lord and Savior today and you'll be fine (rapture!)!!! Remember: JESUS is GOD, see John 1! Read the New Testament and the Book of Daniel, listen to Dr. Ron Rhodes and Roger Liebi on the end times, Rapture, Antichrist. Blessings from AB

JBP: "[We're telling 18 year olds that] 'they're wiser than their elders, which they definitely are not'". So true! It's so annoying to see very young, uneducated people make statements with certainty on topics they know almost nothing about.

Great talk. I am so happy you guys mentioned the importance of "trade-offs". As an economist, this comes quite natural to me. What I observe in the general puplic, however, is that most people are quite reluctant to talk about "trade-offs" - and I often wonder why. One reason might be that it sounds rather like making "bad compromises", instead of actually "solving the problem". As the great Thomas Sowell pointed out long ago, it is the difference in mental schemes or models we use to make sense of the world around us - what he refers to as different "visions" - rather then actual differences in value judgements or preferences that divide us. I happen to agree very much with him in this regard and also that the difference between thinking in "trade-offs" and thinking in "solutions" plays a major role in it. I would have loved to hear you elaborate on that topic a little more, as I really think this is where psychology, ethics and economics may meet and stimulate each other quite productively. What is it that makes us so reluctant to think in terms of "trade-offs"? Why are we always looking for "solutions", even when knowing they are bad ones? How can we, as a society, get rid of focussing all the time on the one, big, and super-important problem, be it climate change or whatever is viewed as being the most pressing at the moment, and foster compromising and trading-off our goal(s) with all other goals we / others sure have and care about? Why are we always fooled into believing in "a" or "the" solution? What's the ethics in all of that? I would love to hear your thoughts on that kind of stuff. Thanks so much for your discussion so far. Carry on your amazing work!
