How To Make The Woodsmen Holster - Easy Afternoon Leather Project - Flap Holster

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today we will create a leather holster. This style of leather gun holster is an easy build and a great beginner project. I call this style of holster The Woodsman. I think of it as the practical gun holster that was carried by many while settling the wild countryside. This flap holster does a great job of protecting the revolver and yet having it when you need it. Gun holsters can be made in many styles. This is holster is nice as it allows a person to use what works well for them. This flap gun holster is made from veg-tan leather and could be customized easily with tooling or other decorative processes. I used an oil finish on this project.
The leather that I am using was purchased from Montana Leather. This piece of leather is veg-tan leather tanned by Sepici Leather from Turkey. I like how the leather works. The leather seems to have less flaws than I am used to from other tanneries.

While I am not a fan of open carry I will use these techniques to make a holster for my knives. Every time I watch a Robert Little video I learn something new and I love your creativity.

I never realized that leather-work could be so interesting! Twenty minutes just flew by watching you work. The holster looks very good and seeing how it's made is cool. The antler catch and leather strap to hold it closed are unique. I think this was the REAL Robert today, but I've been fooled before. All the Best !

Love the use of the antler tip which saves any metal creating scratches on the metal of the pistol. Also looking forward to burning off the sinew ends which I never tried before when I used a lot of sinew back in the 80s for installing billets in saddles. Cheers...Freddie

Thanks Freddie. I started a phone case right after that and will be using the artificial sinew to whip the edges.

Nice little project Robert. On another note and perhaps I missed it, what size (weight) Bary King tooling maul did you end up recently purchasing? Also, was there a reason you went with the tapered head rather than the round head version? I am in the market for a lighter weight maul than my 24 oz BK and the one you are using in your tooling videos seems to be working out well for you. Thanks again for today's video and for your thoughts on my inquiry above. Enjoy your weekend!

Great questions. The leather was actually 8 oz when measured. That is about the lightest weight that I think I would use. The Barry King maul that I purchased for tooling is 16 oz. I like the tapered head for tooling because you can ground your elbow on the bench top and not have to place your wrist at a more uncomfortable angle. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for the additional information regarding your maul selection Robert. Also, thanks for the clarification on the leather weight used for this project.
