Awesome! I am glad the video was helpful.

For those wondering how wide or how much curve would look good for them, make a template on cardboard, tack it to a 2x4, then lay it across and stand back. When you find out what looks good then copy that to wood.

I knew there had to be a way to make a thick wooden arch that I could afford but still looked really nice. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you sir! You just picked up a new subscriber.

This is a great idea! I'm making one of these this summer and I'm going to use your ideas. I think though that if you ran the wood through your table saw first to removed the slightly rounded "dressed" edge of the lumber, it would be more square on the edges and you'd have less of a line where the top and bottom meet. I also think I"ll make two of these and attach them on either side of the 4x4 post to make it more robust

Thank you, thank you..I tried strings, sticks and finally I found you...trying to cut the underside of a pergola beam with a shallow 2 inch arch...none of the methods worked, or I didn't have a none stretchy string or cable...my project goes forward thanks to you..Oh I didn't want to put holes in my water pipe so I used heavy duty rubber bands to attach to screws on both ends and in the middle at the correct height. I set the pipe against the board on top of the end screws and placed the middle screw at the pipes back surface to hold it at my mark for height of the arch...worked a dream. Thanks again...we country gardners still have uncommon smarts.

FYI... That is a Counter Bore... Counter Sink is tapered! Nice arch... I'm thinking a 2x12" for my hunting cabin. BTW... I like the screw attachment with the sleeve to hold the screw in place can't find one the long... where did you get it

Good job and thank you for sharing. I need to make 2 of those but like the arch higher for climbing plants. Is there wider wood than 10"? Also if I paint them, do they need to be threaded wood or just regular?

Thank you. They sell a 2x12 board but that is the largest. If you paint them, you don't really need treated wood but you will need to remember to keep up with the paint as they will rot much more easily. Treated is much better.....and you can paint that too.

Hello this looks great. If one only has a four foot span to cross would you recommend same process or would it look out of proportion? Any input welcome.

On a 4' opening, I would use a 2x12 and notch completely through the posts letting the arch protrude beyond. So the length of the top arch would be say 5'-6" give or take. You can then do some sort of decorative cut on the ends.

DIY quick, easy .... and it looks that way. However my OCD is raising. In the very least I'd would have ripped both edges of the 2x 10 to get rid of the rounded edges so that it was possible to make the seam less noticeable. Then was the arch length. Seemed a wee bit short and some \_______/ angles on the ends would have gave it some style while helping to protect the end grain. The notch for the bridle joint. That should be tight enough that a bit of tapping with a wood mallet is required to get it to seat. Pretreating the whole thing with thinned Tung oil or BLO followed by your sealing coats of your preference, spar varnish or the like is going to make this look good and last for years. You can also coat the notch just prior to seating the arch with a thinned 100% silicone caulk of your pref color to keep the water/ moisture out. Yes used petroleum oil is cheap and works well but the ramifications .... meh. Yes, all some more extra steps but the results will be worth the effort.

The arch should have gone to the outside of the post and the ends of the 2 X 10 should have been cut to match the arch.

Not badding the work or tutorial but I think what he means is from our view the left and right sides appear to need evened out because you have much more material on the left (our view point) than the right.
