Read an old interview where Mike specifically said he uses pulse width modulation to achieve those sounds but that's all the detail he gave. Ive been doing similar using DS FM with envelope & LFO modulation.

@@hypnotictechnoproduction I have been using these techniques with different synthesizers and I have had some really incredible & powerful results. So far, I have done so with Massive, Razor & Carbon 2 from Native Instruments as well as Rob Papen's Predator. Being that every synth has it's own unique characteristics, the sounds are the same conceptually but the sonic results are so varied that there are endless possibilities to create.

Awesome video! To the point and easy to follow! Do you maybe know what kind of hardware synth would be able to achieve this? I guess it should be able to set pitch envelopes as wel as retrigger this with some kind of LFO? I'm still learning about synthesis but would be cool to jam with this sound hands-on :)

I'm really sorry, but I don't have much hardware and I can't help you with this topic. But don't worry! Classic old synths can handle it. In fact, lots of techno was made on the Korg MS-20, for example.
