Not really a classic sound per say, but with a Juno like oscillator or something like it (i use the basic engine on the MicroFreak) modulate the pulse width and the filter for a plucky bass sound, with some sub bass added into it. On my MicroFreak it cuts through the mix instantly and is my go to bass sound.

Juno sound, Jupiter sound - actually not sure I could tell the difference! I recently got a Peak and have a JD-Xi, I played a Juno String sound on the JD-Xi ( #004 "JUNO Str 1" ) and was extremely disappointed with the Peak getting nowhere near to it. This bugged me, a lot. So 2 days of tweaking the Peak and I have something pretty close (about 90-95% there) although now I have a much greater respect for reverb and chorus effects in general! Actually I respect the JD-Xi a bit more as I had been seeing it as a bit of a toy, but mainly I realised I really just want a Juno - well, not a real one, a version of it that is analogue or as close as that you can't tell it's not analogue (and no alalogue drift/tuning issues) and I don't want a soft synth. So this leads me to System-8 vs Juno-X (or accuracy vs playability), and I don't know which way I need to go, I just like the Juno sound! ....Or I possibly just need to program in some new presets for the Peak which are just as close? Is this possible?
Just started, but I'm gonna take a guess: 1. The supersaw 2. The supersaw 3. The supersaw

Don’t forget the hypersquare.
If we want to focus purely on patches that would teach an important, foundational concept with as few components as possible, I'd say the 2010-ish dubstep screech bass is about as important as the FM bass (and uses an almost identical setup!): 1. Take two sine waves, one low (ideally in the sub-bass 20-100 Hz Range), and one high - traditionally four octaves up. 2. Route them both out of the mixer at equal volume. 3. Distort the frick out of them! This sound really defined the early brostep era, and is a wonderful introduction to the world of waveshaping as a synthesis and sound design tool. You can play with the distortion algorithm, the distance in pitch between the two sine waves, and even the waveforms themselves - though much like with FM, the simpler the wave the cleaner the result - to expand beyond the basic patch.

Thanks for another great video Cameron. Just heard your podcast with Soundiron, and I now have even more appreciation for all the work you put into these videos... thank you so much for doing this!
Patch tutorial videos are probably my favorite out of the entire synth/music production corner of KZread
Great video - your uploads are just never, EVER a waste of time. Somehow you manage to keep it fresh AND relevant at the same time. Thanks!
Learning how to create my own sounds was inspiring in so many ways! Be it, knowing what you want to sound like and finding ways of getting there, or be it, just discovering what will happen if I route this to that and switch to the other thing and then maybe turn those knobs over there... Your morning cuppa Joe has been keeping me excited for months now. Thank you so much for your work!
Short, sweet, and amazing results! I've worked on similar sound design in a DAW and using modular via VCV, but it's great to see these done using a different set of knobs from the ones I've been turning. Every time I walk through this process on different gear, I learn something new. Thanks for a great tutorial!
Just got my Novation Peak, this video was perfect - short and to the point, yet explaining why you were doing what you were doing. Top-notch instruction.
Please keep doing this with the peak!! It’s so easy to understand
The Peak/Summit are so under-rated - they are so flexible and really well laid out considering what they are capable of. Thanks Cameron.

a common trope among FL Studio users is how powerful yet underrated 3xOsc is. I got a Peak two days ago and realized it's pretty much a beefed up hardware version of 3xOsc (with an analog filter). It's soo good and fun to tweak.
More of these please! Very useful just hearing what you consider useful starting points to be.
Very helpful video on multiple levels. Short, simple, lot of information but easy to understand. Thank you, subscribed, will watch more of your stuff
Keep doing these on the peak. Short, simple and immensely practical!
awesome. as a basic patch tweaker i should really start learning the basics of design. these small tuts are a great motivation.
Excellent video - looking forward to more synthesis/sound design tutorials from you soon!
Good video and nice clear patch tutorials... I like the way you show some of the other places the patches could go. You could probably add some aftertouch mod to the Bladerunner patch to get even closer to the CS-80 sound.
love this, please make a series of this :)

I dunno about other gear, but Trogly (Trogly’s Guitar Show) runs a service where he will help folks obtain international gear. Mostly shit like Japanese-only limited release Fender guitars, but he seems like a nice guy who helps out whenever he can (and it’s economical for both parties). Where are you located? If you’re in a country that occasionally gets limited run gear that he’s into, maybe you could work out a tit for tat?

My guy, great video! Would definitely love more videos like this in the future.
Great idea for a video! This is also a fun way to test out a new synth under consideration - have a list of go-to patches and make them on the synth to see how it sounds compared to others. I've just added a couple of these to my list :)
Very cool and instructive. I was able to re-create all three sounds in Pigments pretty easily (which means I will definitely be ale to do the same on my Deluge, too).
Great video! Super logical, easy to follow, great work
Excellent stuff, thanks! My Peak is currently woefully under-used, because I have some ergonomic challenges in my studio and it's not in a position that makes it easy to access. I need to think about my layout so I can use it more. It really is a lovely synth, and these patches demonstrate that. The Bladerunner lead was very close in terms of the sound, although for actual performance I prefer the Hydrasynth because it adds the missing magic ingredient of polyphonic aftertouch!
The Blade Runner patch is too much fun, thanks for this. Another addition to it is to go into the FX section and do these two things - Set TimeMode to HexVLoFi and play with the Output to your tastes, and in FxSlot set the Dest to Del Slew and up the Depth to again your personal tastes. This gives an additional tape type effect to the patch. For Voice Spread fun, set that to 60-something, change SpreadMode to Alternt and mess with the pan position. I love the Peak.
great video, top tier production, keep it up you're doing good work
Thanks for the video. I suggest to use a -18dB filter for the 303-sound since the original has a -18dB filter. The -24dB filter is way to bassy and this makes a huge difference in my opinion, maybe it´s not available in the Peak and it´s better to go on with a free emulation or some free vst-FX like Tal-Filter II. It makes sence to put a distortion effect behind the tb-sound, try it out. Best regards
great video. would love some arp type sounds in the future please
i find adding a touch of s&h to all oscillators pitch in light amounts can give that kind of randomness in detune as well a bit of noise layering can help sell those old vintagey patches.

I use an LFO for that. The synth has 3 so that comes in handy.
Super useful. thanks!
I am so grateful I found this tutorial. I recently purchased a Novation Peak and Hydrasynth Deluxe because I want to make my own sounds and have the hands on experience of hardware synths, but I find it's hard to find good tutorials. I have watched basic sound design vids still leaving me lost in space. This is just what I need (for now). Thanks a lot! (what I am also still looking for is the how to use it in Ableton and also over time. How do you remember settings if you open a project? Or do you always do 1 project at a time and then move on?)
I JUUUUST realized that you are the Bandzoogle voice! Wild! This is an amazing channel Sir. I don't play synths, but I still find a lot of the content here super insightful and I really appreciate the production value! Totally awesome!

Awesome!! Please make more of these! :)
you can do lot more for more faithful 303 sound .. you can emulate accent by modulating 4 targets with velocity -> (+)flt amount, (-)filt env decay, (+)cutoff and (+) volume (which is exacty what accent does on original 303)
I have several digital, hybrid and analog synths in the studio as well and I agree. The Peak is the one I never see selling. That's just me though.

I loved this. Have a summit but this tutorial is easily adoptable with serum or something else in that price range. Show us more.
Cool stuff, one nitpick is the OG 303 filter doesn't have key tracking. Depending on how authentic you're looking for, might want to turn it down to 0. The fact that the Peak defaults key tracking to 100 I found slightly frustrating when I had mine, I almost always cranked it down to 0 initially.
Loved this
I’ll be getting a Peak at some point. Everything I’ve heard from that synth sounds great.
Great video! Would love to see a similar one using the Deepmind...

The principle is the same, just different UI.
I always kind of chuckle when I hear about the worship of the original 303, when it's so easy to program that sound on other synths.
I can imagine Wendy Carlos doing all this back in the day for what was to become Clockwork Orange soundtrack (:
That Blade Runner lead😯 Shot me straight back to the 80's!

Cool! RIP Vangelis :(
Very inspiring!
Man always in US i envy you guys :) however your channel is one the best out there mate - i am also a sound designer myself and your chanel helped me a whole lot with some ideas.
man, ever since my first midi controller I've always been drawn to Novation. The launchkey mini mk3 just did so much more than anything for $120 at the time. I was lucky to find ZZounds and ordered circuit tracks and bass station II because I thought it would cover my synth needs(LOL) But I was lucky because I could never drop $700 on gear like that at once. (still can't) Ever since I have been kinda waiting for the next Novation inspiration because I have gotten a lot more gear but not from novation. The peak is so intimidating with all its capabilities and I'm currently learning syntakt while I pay it off. so I probably won't be making large purchases any time soon.
I already have a Peak, I have alot of fun with it but it's not featured in My music yet but I definitely will.
I almost want to pull the trigger for the Summit.... just not sure if I need it over the Supernova II
Excuse me while I go rewatch the original Blade Runner. Although we're kind of living our own dystopian nightmare these days, so maybe I'll just go compose my own life soundtrack in Ableton lol Great video as always.
Love the blade runner lead ❤
Damn, that perfect circuit sponsorship is choice 💯
The synth solo patch from Al Jarreau "Mornin'." PLEASE!!!!
Could you do the same lesson on the vital vst so it's easier to follow along? It's really fascinating to see you at work. Quick, confident and effortless.
I feel stupid. Trying to replicate the Acid Patch on my Hydra Synth and my MatrixBrute. But I can't seem to get the filters to respond to the AMP Envelope only instead of the filter envelopes...

You can usually think of hardware synths as packaged sound generators and MIDI controllers, with or without a keyboard controller, too. The on-panel controls and keyboard are just sending MIDI messages to the underlying sound generation engine. Don't take this as a given, but generally a hardware synth has all (and more) of its controls exposed to MIDI and/or SysEx commands for integration and automation. And you can also bi-directionally use them as MIDI controllers for other devices, too. Be sure to consult documentation and look at MIDI specifications for any synth in question though.

I can’t abide Gleam. It’s appalling how they have destroyed music-gear giveaways across many media and retail outlets running such promotions for years without Gleam. It’s yet another invasive parasite business, offering ready web forms to promoters to pump customers for data. Which happened just fine without introducing an unaccountable third party into the transaction. It’s a cool promotion (cheers for making it happen), and I hope whoever winds up with the Peak loves it like you do. Certainly, I could use the donation of great synth, but no - not through Gleam.

Yeah. I was hoping it would allow entry via email, but it doesn't. And a 0.001% chance of winning a Peak isn't worth linking a social media account and getting spammed until the end of time. There are reasons I keep all my accounts separate, and those reasons matter to me more than a 1-in-a-zillion chance of getting a free synth.
