Also next time to finish them off for a smoother less frizzy look, dunk them in a pot of boiling water. I’m not sure on the exact time on how long to dunk them but make sure you do have a towel to quickly wrap them in so they don’t drip water all over the floor. But that should effectively “seal” the ends in so you don’t have unraveling or weird frizzies.

The learning curve is something else, isn’t it? They turned out so good and look super cute on you! Good on ya, girl 😊 Also, if you do decide to make another set and want to try the crochet style, definitely pick up an actual crochet hook/needle. Sally’s sold you a latch hook *shaking finger at Sally’s*. That is made for installing pre-made braids and locs over cornrows. Like the “Boho Locs” style.

You did great! The hook that you have is actually a latch hook vs a crochet hook. I am going to be attempting to make my own soon and I really appreciate you filming your experience! Awesome work!

As a experienced crafter, it is almost never cheaper to make it yourself. After time learning (watching YT) all the different trips to the store to get different things you didn't know you would need its easier to pay someone who knows what they are doing to make it correctly. however! It is a pretty big flex to say you made something yourself and that is what I strive for. I have done almost everything and no one wants to pay for one after I get good at something but everyone wants something for free. BTW your first few dreads look beautiful and way better than my first. Im having a hard time with the synthetic hair and I'm trying wool locks next 😆

Respectfully, you are correct in many aspects but not in this one. I have a big head and for me even the cheapest options will be well over $280…for really nice ones it would easily be $600, or more. You can make them for $20-$30, if you already have a straightener. Temu sells the hair as low as $8-14 sometimes on clearance. 🫶

I think they look great. Just letting you know that there is a special crochet hook for dreading hair it’s cheap and it works great. Just thought I’d help by letting you know. You need the crochet needle without the latch on it.

You did a great job for a beginner. I started the same way & my first set looked just like that. After a decade of doing it by hand, I finally bought a dreadlocks machine! Currently trying to figure that out (no instructions). So I feel like a beginner again. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I wish I had the courage to make a few videos on what I've learned. There are so many techniques & I've probably tried them all.

Yeah the Apple cider vinegar stuff is supposed to neutralize the chemical companies spray on the synthetic hair. The reason why people tell other people when making these to do that before installing them in your hair the first time is to neutralize the chemical & so it doesn’t make your scalp burn/itch because the chemical that’s on the hair is what most people are allergic to skin wise. If that makes any sense.

im surprised they didnt supply you with a latch hook when buying the hair. they take some getting used to. great for installing, interlocking, etc. i prefer the crochet method vs smooth dreads so i stick to clover brand crochet hooks 0.5mm,0.75mm. ikickshins has some pretty great choices for synthetic hair that is worth the 75$ if you have it lol. i bought tons. there is no right or wrong way of making dreadlocks and just keep at it. onyx lox, and doctored locs are very knowledgable as well as facebook groups. ive been making my own as well going on 2 years but im no professional. like you said its based on what you prefer and thats what matters:)
