I am so relieved you use the proper PPE when using resin. There are horror stories out there from people having reactions that range anywhere from rashes to serious respiratory difficulties. Ventilation, nitrile gloves, and a respirator are a must.

I've used polyester resins the bad smelly stuff since 1979. At the beginning I was silly no mask etc. But back then no books. No video's. And professionals did not want to help you. So I soldiered on and taught myself and learned everything myself and more. Then professionals started to ask me questions and I got my revenge and gave them the same answers they did not give me. But it's different today. We do help each other to a certain degree. Back to mould making. Fill the area with some rice and pour it into a cup and waigh it that will tell you how much silicone you need to fill the mould. Once you make the piece you can fill the mould area with rice. Again that will let you know how much resin you need to fill the moulds. I'd like to add I had no health issues with resin. Now we know more about using it safely follow the rules. Stay safe
As a super beginner I must say this is one of the BEST tutorials I've found to create what I'm searching for. Thank you so much!!!!

Hello! Thank you for sharing the videos, do you use different kind of resin for the mold and the one you in the mold? what are the differences?
@RedRockingBird
Жыл бұрын
Hi, the mold is made from silicone rubber, then once cured can be used for casting resin ❤️
This video is wonderful. I just got my kit in the mail. Am I correcting in seeing that A and B are used to both made the molds and the models?
@RedRockingBird
7 ай бұрын
No, A and B are mixed together so that the silicone rubber cures, (then you fill mold with resin or similar, not silicone) happy crafting
It may have been said, but a resin 3-d printer can create insanely detailed prints that would yield better moulds. They are of such resolution that the layer lines are invisible.
@RedRockingBird
10 ай бұрын
Thank you for adding this, yes true, I only have FDM 3D printers currently, but I have a friend that has 3D printed me some resin models, so busy practicing moulding these for another video, all great fun. What do you make?
Really like your videos, they are very interesting and informative. Regarding the silicone mould material you use, how much will it stretch? I want to cast a small bowl/cup like structure, but the base of the cup is only about 8mm, through which I would have to remove the rest of the cup, once set. The cup is around 45mm diameter, would its removal through such a small hole rip the silicone so destroying the mould? How elastic is the silicone once set? Appreciate your thoughts on this please, thanks 😊

New to the idea of making my own silicone molds for resin, is any resin food safe, or do I need to specifically specify food safe?
@RedRockingBird

Once epoxy resin has fully cured correctly then it’s normally food safe, for example for the side/decoration of a chopping board, always best to check with the brand you use first though. I personally wouldn’t make plates and cups etc to use though presently

I really think it should be ok, the silicone should stick to the silicone, just make sure you don’t touch it or get dust or grease in there in the meantime, I’d cover it over. The other thing you can do to bulk out the silicone is to chop up any other unused silicone molds you have into tiny pieces and mix this in with your fresh silicone and then pour it in, let me know how you get on, best of luck.

I thought it was better to measure epoxy by volume because the resin and hardner can have different consistencies.

Why do you need the double-sided tape? That is, why isn't the packing tape enough?

If you find a mold that is exactly what you require for a project then that’s fab, I like to make completely unique items and therefore making my own molds is super useful

This was an amazingly detailed tutorial! I am someone very interested in starting a resin design business myself. I was actually wondering whether you completely started your studio and designs by being completely self taught? Or would you recommend doing a course/workshops to cut down costly mistakes and learning time? Many thanks 🙌🤍
