How to make Seat Rail Extensions
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Check out my new website for parts and merch that I am selling - krusebuilt.com/
I need more leg room and I'm too cheap to buy official seat extensions, so I build a set instead. :)
I used 1/4" x 1" A36 Hot Rolled Flat Bar, two pieces at 14-1/2" long.
5/16-18 bolts, at least 1-3/4" long.
5/16-18 nuts, preferably "Jam Nuts" as they have a shorter height.
The car is a 1966 Mustang Fastback with a factory V8 and T5 transmission.
Shot with GoPro Hero 8 with the Media Mod, edited on Davinci Resolve 17.

I'm looking at doing this to mine as well. I'm 6'2 and it's at the limit of what I would call comfortable with the seat all of the way back.

Well, if you'd rather skip the fab process and just buy a set up seat rails already done, I sell them on my website KruseBuilt.com. :)
That's a big improvement. I'm betting that is going to make it a much more enjoyable car to drive on longer trips.

Excellent product and super fast delivery to New Zealand. Highly recommend Andy's seat rail extension kit....!

Thanks for that!
This works on the 1967 to 70 Mercury Cougars as well. Amazing what a couple of inches can do!

That's sound about right as Mercury shared a lot of their platform with Ford. :)
Nicely done. If you ever have to remove seat pans for rust repair use 69 seat pans and you get a 1" drop for head room. Looking good.

I was looking into my options for lower seat pans. It turned out to be a bigger project than I wanted, but it's still on my list as a backup plan. :)
I had the same problem Andy. You can gain even more room by changing to a 14" steering wheel. I have the same wheel as yours but 14". Made an even bigger difference to space than the seat rail extension!

I thought about that, but the 14" wheel just doesn't look right to me. Plus, the larger wheel helps with manual steering. :)
Nice work Andy! You could easily sell this as a kit! I would like to place a custom order for my passenger side so I can get them out of the way of my window!

@@AndyKruseChannel You bet!
Good work, the only thing I would have done different is weld the studs in so you don’t have to worry about them coming loose from vibration and they wouldn’t move when you were tapping them. Also I’m the future when you wanna cut the studs, put nuts on first then you can unscrew them after you cut them and they will clean the threads up for you. Looks good though! 👍

Yeah, It would probably work by just flipping the extension piece around by 180 degree. :)
I'm kinda late to the party but I will be making these for my "63" Falcon. Thanks.

@@AndyKruseChannel What kind of price range are we talking? And, will they work on the Falcon without any modifications? Do you know anyone that has new seat rail kits for the Falcon? Sorry about all of the questions but you seem really knowledgeable about this subject. By the way, that's a beautiful Mustang.

I do not know if they fit a Falcon, but I do know that the Falcon and Mustang share a lot of the same parts. :)

@@AndyKruseChannel Yeah, I do know that the Mustang was based on the Falcon chassis. I'll need to do a little more research. Thank you for taking the time to answer me. God bless. 👍👍🙂
I had the same problem with my 70, and I'm only 5'10. Bought a smaller wheel and extenders to fix but man people liked to be crammed in there in the 60s.

Same here with my 69. I'm 5'10" and it still feels awkward to sit in.
Excellent job, looks like your in the market for a tilt steering column next? Have a great weekend.

@@AndyKruseChannel One of these days I might take a video of my car and post it. I think you will get a kick out of it! Besides, after I added the Corbeau seats I had to add the tilt to get more room.

Truth!
A few inches makes all the difference. I would have wanted those bolts welded. I wouldn't trust my life on a little locktight for holding seat bolts.
@AndyKruseChannel

Those nuts are sandwiched between the rail pieces and the seat pan on the floor of the car, there's no where for them to go or even unscrew. :)
Back in the day they built nice cars but, if you happen to be tall, your screwed.
