How to Make Samurai Armor out of Foam - Kote / Suneate Armor - Free Templates - Cosplay Part 7

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to make Samurai Chest Armor out of Foam! I have always wanted a Samurai armor set so I figured it was about time to make one. This is an HD-Foam build so the armor it extremely light and I use various painting techniques to give it a weathered metallic look. In part 1 and 2 I went over the fabricatoin of the Helmet. In parts 3 and 4 I made the chest and back armor. In part 5 I made the shoulder armor and in part 6 I made the waist armor. This is the final video in the series and will cover how I made the Kote and Suneate. Free PDF templates are available on my site if you'd like to make one too!

    When we balled up the foil and pressed it into the foam we found we ended up burning our finger tips a lot more than we got the texture the way we wanted :( But in doing so we found a neat way to give foam a worn and/or leather look is to take a sheet of tin foil and crinkle it up then unroll it and use a iron to lay it out across the foam and firm press for about 5 - 10 seconds (depending on your desired detail level). Cant attach a photo example but I've had a lot of success with your template for the Viking shield using that for the edge trim!

    This is the best looking set of foam samurai armor that I've ever seen. I've been trying to make my own samurai armor and I've seen a lot if other designs people have made but this is definitely the best. (I've made 5 but they aren't too good looking or detailed). I had a few questions- 1- Do the cords/ropes tear the foam? (I've had a problem with the ropes tearing the foam, which would cause parts to fall off) 2- Would your armor withstand hits from LARP swords? And 3- Would you consider doing armor commissions in the future? I'd love to have armor like this but I don't think I have the skills (or patience lol) to make it myself.

  • @SKSProps

    @SKSProps

    First off Thanks! I used a heat tool to make the holes which burns the foam and makes it tougher. In areas that required heavy wear I lined those holes with metal washers If you were going to use something like this for larp you'd want to step up to 6mm vs the 4mm I used I no longer take public commissions I just don't have the free time. That is why I put out these builds for others to make their own

    @@SKSProps I plan on using your templates and techniques on my next set of armor. The ropes kept tearing the foam so I'll definitely be doing it the way you made yours so it doesn't happen anymore. If you ever make more videos on the samurai armor in the future, are you going to make the haidate and chainmail kote also? And if so, do you know where I could find plastic chainmail sleeves? I've looked everywhere and haven't been able to find any.
