How to make pressed impression pottery.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Part 1 of taking pottery clay and pressing through a Slab roller, and getting the clay ready for some fresh leaves to be rolled into the wet clay. This leaves their 3-D design in it. It is cut into free form shaped bowls, and the left over clay is used to create small aromatherapy pendants! Tips on how to get your slab clay ready like a big canvas and how to place your plants on it. Cutting and moving the pieces into different drying forms to create different pieces. You do not need to have a slab roller to create these pieces. You simply take two strips of wood at the thickness you want, and use them as guides to run your rolling pin over to make a even thickness slab of clay.
Part 2 will be a continuation of the same pieces being cleaned and made ready for the kiln and the first firing.
Tools: rolling pin, fettling knife, small rolling pin, hole cutters, light material no texture on it.
Supplies: white low fire pottery clay, what ever fresh plants you find in nature and you want to capture forever on your clay canvas.

Hello from NJ! Just happened upon your tutorial and really enjoyed watching you work. I use leaves and wild flowers all the time for impressions on ornaments, bowls, platters, etc. This year I used copper wash to put in the veins/impressions and wipe out, then a clear glaze or a celadon glaze over. The copper wash turned out fantastic! I want to search for your part 2 to see what glazes you use. Thanks!

Sounds beautiful!! I use a low fire white clay, and a cone 05 glaze. I used to get a great clear dinner ware safe glaze. For some reason they quit making it. Using same company and new replacement for it, but, it seems to burn out my under glaze colors. I broke my wrist 5 weeks ago, and finally have my kiln back. I will surely have a painting and glazing coming soon here!! Redoing furniture right now is a far reach. I have been doing this for over 30 years, lots of stuff up in this noggen, thanks for finding me and finding me.
