Quick Disclaimer: Yes we are aware that the Dayton Shooter was in a Pornogrind band. We have been working on this video since June, then we started filming and recording in Juli. These videos take a while to record and edit before releasing them. So this is just one of those unfortunate coincidences. While we're here, we'd like to say: Fuck white nationalists, fuck mysogonists, and fuck mass shooters.

This is actually a brilliant deconstruction of death/grind and closer to the spirit of that music and less of a pisstake than many people realize. People I met who played in death metal or grindcore bands were generally soft-spoken gentle souls who worked in IT by day, and by night liked playing Warcraft and watching Futurama, but on weekends could be found in the back rooms of dive bars singing songs about sawing Miley Cyrus in half. Music is all about how it makes you feel inside. There's nothing more visceral and powerful than death metal riffing. The vocals & lyrics are really just incidental to the music, you can't hear em anyway, so why not have fun with it and be as gruesome as possible (like those fucked-up old Troma horror comedies...) Anyone who takes 'em seriously are just being stooged.

I understand music theory to a point, enough to know what fifths, fourths, 7ths, Maj/minor 3rds, scales, degrees of scales, chord logic etc. That being said I still thought it was funny as hell because when I write songs I don't really use the theory unless I'm writing the chorous or something melodic. For riffs I find using theory and sticking to the notes of one particular scale can sound boring. You gotta throw stuff in there that shouldn't fit at all, but make it fit, and make it heavy, and make it groove. Hints perfect fourths. These chords sound like actual garbage. But metal musicians make them sound heavy, make them groove, and use it as part of their sound. Or the flat second. Or the flat fifth. Or the flat fourth. It's our job as metal musicians to make these normally unpleasant intervals sound interesting and heavy.

That's because they ended up making Slam instead, which disappointed me to be honest. I find Slam in general to be incredibly boring. Most of the Slam bands I've heard have sounded far too much like they were former Deathcore bands trying to transition over to Death Metal but failing at it because they just can't let go of their breakdown fetish. The way those fuckers do breakdowns is not brutal (or br00tal or whatever bastardization of the word they prefer), unless they meant to say "brutally boring" because all they manage to do is bore me half to sleep. That said, this song was one of those rare exceptions that didn't put me to sleep so I'll give them props for making something slammy that didn't make me want to skip to another track.
