Thanks for that tip on the smaller rutabagas. My grandmother would have rutabagas shooting all across the kitchen whenever she would chop them up🤣. I love rutabagas with rice and fried pork chops.

I LOVE Rutabagas too! I just boil them plain, drain, then season to taste with salt & pepper, butter and mash them like mash potatoes. DELISH!

I just stumbled on this video. Oh Heavens To Betsy I will have to try this! I grew up in TX, our family came to TX from New England in the 50s. We just boil them like a potato, drain and mash with butter, So goooood! (But)Only having them at Thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

Same I am 41 and she still makes me a pot.

This recipe is the closest to what I remember 50 years ago. The cooks memory from that time are waiting on cooking rutabaga so I had to search until I found one that was close to the taste of my six year old memory.

I love rutabagas and this is just like my grandmother cooked them. Thanks Ms Brenda Dee 😊

I haven't had turnips since I was a girl. My mom used to make it as a side dish for Thanksgiving years ago and I always enjoyed them. I remember my Georgia grandmother calling salt pork, "strik-a-lean" 😊 Thank you for the memory. I'll be looking for some next trip to the supermarket!

I love rutabagas Ms. Brenda Dee! My great grandmother and my grandmother cooked them with salt pork and that’s how I cook mine. I do add a little sugar to mine. I was brought up eating them with cornbread too.... Deelicious.

Yes! I put a little sugar in mine too. I grew up on these. Rutabagas and cornbread was one of my favorite meals that my grandmother would make for us a kids. Sometimes she would serve them with her fried chicken. Omg! 🤤

We never had rutabagas growing up, but we had turnips and tender turnip greens. Now I live near Charleston, SC and rutabagas are popular here. They smell really bad cooking and so I never would eat them, but thanks for showing us how and maybe someday I'll brave making and eating them!

Rutabaga are so good!!! I'm homeless and have been craving my home cooking for months. My mom comes from Alabama and I too grew up eating this vegetable. It smells good and taste good. I love them.

I had my rutabaga cut up and realized I forgot how long to cook it for so I came here. I want to say thank you but not really for cooking a rutabaga. Thank you for reminding me of my southern grandmother and reminding me to be careful with a knife. I miss her so much! I was raised on these and cornbread too!

Thanks for this just watched it so I could cook some rutabagas I just bought because I couldn't remember how my mom did it I do remember she would mush them up with butter like mashed potatoes and they were good that way too
