"Please don't ruin your favourite brush by getting paint on it" -Vince Venturella, 2023

Although to be fair there are certain paints i won't use with certain brushes. I must protect my little darlings from the harsher elements out there that just want to ruin them.......😄
The magic is not in the paints, nor in the brushes, but in the wizard using them. Thanks Vince! Fantastic!!! ❤ 🎉
Please remember to like and comment to appease the almighty algorithm 😁❤️👍🏼

I love your basing videos, but this one was particularly insane. Love how you never stopped taking it up a notch, when it already looked good. Thank you for sharing.

Perfect timing! I'm working on a mystical forest base at the minute for a Rockgut, wasn't happy with the directions it was going. This is great inspiration.
I often chop up my tufts to create different sizes. Can use a hobby knife to chop them into smaller clumps, or a tiny scissors to trim them shorter. Less need to buy more packs (do that for different textures or colors). Just get the longer length tuffs to start!
Really lovely Vince. TBH, nice as the figure is I actually think the base is better! I am amazed at how you get it to look like it's actually glowing. It was fascinating to see how using the airbrush to put in the softer glow around the painted highlights really fools the eye into believing in the luminescence. I know it's not actually glowing but I can't convince my brain of that fact because it "sees" a glow. Astounding optical illusion 😯
Realy nice colors
love it vince. osl is so hard, 95% of it looks so bad, fair play for people trying it, keep doing it, keep getting better, because when someone nails it like this its amazing. the thing that lets osl down usually imo is that if im in a pitch dark room and i turn on a blue light everything will look blue. but if im in an already half lit room and theres something red in there, when a blue light hits it the surface has to A. become brighter than the bits where the light isnt hitting and B. become a colour thats a mix of the blue and the red, a pinky/purple tint. So often what u get is just a blob of blue paint, and the blue paint is the same or darker value than the rest of the surface and it just looks like a blob of blue paint on the wrong bit of ur model. i feel like the best osl i see is like you have here where u engineer a situation where its happening in a shadow which lets you dominate the light direction and colour with the osl light. its as much about planning the composition as executing the paining, maybe even more so in some ways.
Excellent guide Vince as always, loved the abbadon black jab, made me chuckle.
Good stuff as always Mr Vince!
Those final steps just pull everything together and finish the glowing effect. Great guide, thank you!
A wonderful tutorial, covering a lot of fun aspects and as always your encouragement to try new things will help me delve into new efforts. thanks so much for your wonderful teaching!

The glowing edge of the water looks awesome.
I love your style of painting! It looks so smooth and natural.. Thanks for sharing the process! This is something that i've never actually done but seeing videos like this will certainly help motivate me to want to try!
Excellent. Love your basing videos
Another great tutorial Sir Vincent 👍🏻
This really sets the scene for the mini. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great video, the tufts tips were so good I got up and added more to a WW2 diorama I am doing as a change from miniatures ( painted up a primaris Librarian last month) its 22:55 here lol something's cant wait for the morning 😅😅. Once this dio is done its either a squad of orcs from Lord of the rings or a space marine outrider, not decided yet, again thanks for this video.
Great result Vince! It's clear you basing game has improved over the years.
This came out fantastic! :)
WOW! You've certainly knocked this baby out of the park! I'm having a little play at doing some mini fantasy dioramas, to be placed in dome cloche bell jars with led fairey lights (it makes an interesting change from my usual historical units!), so yet again you produce a timely & suitable tutorial. Cheerz and keep 'em comng! 🖌🎨👌👍😎
Tiny Tuffs! You should voice over for them!! AWSOME VIDEO!! If you aren’t doing it, you might consider how you integrated the osl with the miniature and your base(of you have the content recorded). The base enhances the focus on the miniature so well and I think people don’t realize how hard that is to pull off until the try and fail!! If anyone can teach that it is technomancer!! Thanks for all you do!!
As usual stunning work as always
Another awesome video! I love the way you explain how light behaves. And as always your osl works beautifully.
You are the best!!!!!!!
Awesome videos as always!!
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Would be very, very cool (although totally unnecessary) if you'd mixed that bottle of bright turquoise with fluorecent pigment. Then you could turn the lights off and really get a glowing effect! I know Stuart Semple has a great line of artist quality glow-in-the-dark pigments.
Is tempting to do this with new oldhammer forest goblins i am doing but then perhaps goblin green hmmm..... your work is stunning as always a true inspiration, love it.

Old world goblins would really fit well in a scene like this indeed!
Thanks bro
Vince you are so amazing for sharing such knowledge, Thank you ! Would you change the techniques for doing a squad or unit ?
👍👍

Would you be able to do a video or two about how you'd use color shifting paint?
@VinceVenturella
Жыл бұрын
It's probably not something you'll see from me honestly, I don't like color shifting paints as they are hard to work with anything over top, they just don't have many uses for miniature painting (outside of maybe, maybe, like fly wings or something).
stacks on stacks on stacks
When you are using the pigment powders on the dirt, assuming you didn't put tufts over it, how would you seal them in after applying?
@VinceVenturella
Жыл бұрын
In general, I wouldn't, I would just work them in with the brush, that is generally enough.

@@VinceVenturella Good to know. Thanks, Vince! I appreciate you.
Hey Vince when I use still waters type product it dries with holes. After 4 or 5 thin coats over the initial one it eventually does not look bad but that makes the process last days. I don't think I apply it in too thick layers and I mix it with washes to give it color. Have you had this problem before? Any idea?
@VinceVenturella
Жыл бұрын
Sounds like air bubbles. You do need to make sure that you pop all of those little bubbles to fully degas it.
Hey Vince, what are your thoughts on titanium dioxide toxicity. I am in an apartment and would like to use tamiya flat white, but I noticed the warning on the label. I don't have the best ventilation in here, but I do have a respirator. Is more ventilation required?
@VinceVenturella

Are you talking about through the airbrush? or brush. If brush painting, it's fine, no worries. If airbrush, you should have a good mask.
@victoralgronovo6676
Жыл бұрын
@@VinceVenturella Yeah through the airbrush, I have a mask with 6001 filters on it, just curious if opening the windows and having the fan on was enough. I think a video on toxicity on paints/good practices would be really helpful! I feel like its not properly covered in our hobby because most paints are non-toxic. Thank you for the response though!
What blue ink did you use? Is it a matte ink?
@VinceVenturella
8 ай бұрын
Daler Rowney, it has some satin quality to it.
May I ask what size is the base and what type of wood ?
@VinceVenturella
Жыл бұрын
It's a 2" x 2" wooden block, cheap wood I ordered in bulk from Amazon for craft blocks.
Wait.. Branches are just logs?
