    Popcorn Biz Owner Experience here...Suggestion: Always keep your front Drop Down Tray in the open position while popping (Mine all have sides to prevent spillage) Also I keep the glass doors open to prevent chewy popcorn, my customers want it Crunchy not chewy. Steam makes it Chewy, especially if not served immediately. So, if you for some reason don't want the doors open, at least open them partially so the steam can escape.

    This may be the answer to my problem. I can't seem to get rid of the chewiness. I've used several brands of kernels and changed the oil ratio as well. So I'll definitely try limiting the steam!! Hoping this helps, I have an event soon. Thank you

    I managed a roller skating rink and made popcorn on a daily basis. When you go to make your first batch... you just turn everything on. Wait for it to get to temperature and THEN dump in your ingredients. Once it's almost done popping, dump the popcorn while everything is still running. The stirrer will help clear the pot of popcorn. If you wait too long you risk the chance of burning your corn. Now you're ready for a 2nd batch.

    I was watching a movie theater person make it, and they mix the salt in with the kernels before adding to the oil. I do it this way at home. My machine turns on the stirrer with the pot heater, so I have to turn them both on. However, I never thought to run warmer early, so I'll try this, thanks.

    If you have a popcorn machine like the one in the video (there are several brands, all the same kind of thing) you can sift out the old maids (unpopped kernels) and recover them from the old maid tray in the bottom of the popper. Then if you like you can try to pop them again. I never bother, popcorn being so cheap I just toss what's in the old maid tray.

  • @cheryldickson2678

    @cheryldickson2678

    It depends on the pot size. Popcorn machines are sold by kettle size so an 8 oz kettle uses 8 oz (1 cup) of corn. Rule of thumb for oil is 1/2 the amount of the corn OR LESS, but most concessions use LESS so 1/3 cup per 8 ounces of corn. Best oil is coconut oil. So if buying a Pre-Flavored oil look for the main ingredient to be Coconut Oil. Kettle Size Amount of Oil Amount of Corn 2 oz. 1 TBSP 1/4 cup 4 oz. 1/4 cup 1/2 cup 6 oz. 1/4 cup 3/4 cup 8 oz. 1/3 cup 1 cup 12 oz. 1/2 cup 1 1/2 cups 14 oz. 1/2 cup 1 3/4 cups 16 oz. 2/3 cup 2 cups 20 oz. 2/4 cup 2 1/2 cups

    Hi love your videos and just saw your recent Carmel corn one. I bought this same machine after your videos and same size. Sadly it didn’t come with the double glass door. No biggie. My question is. Every time I go to clean it and need to remove the kettle I have the hardest time getting it back in the grooves that hang down from the ceiling of the inside. Is this normal for you as well? It’s like a puzzle trying to get it to fit perfectly. A while back the company sent me a new kettle cause the stirrer was being very whacky but the problem never stopped. We have to sometimes bend the grooves to get it to go back in. You can’t use this without cleaning after of coarse but the getting the kettle back in is truly challenging and was wondering if you have the same issue. Thanks.

  • @WayneAshleysSmallWorld

    @WayneAshleysSmallWorld

    The doors were missing? That’s not good. Yes putting the kettle back is definitely a puzzle. After several times you’ll get the hang of it and it’ll become easier to do. I haven’t had any problems with the stirrer lining up with the grooves though.

  • @shanalee7874

    Thanks for the reply. It for sure is a puzzle. It truly is a struggle but eventually we get it in the groove. I meant about the doors that I thought I ordered the double Door one but ended up being the single door. It’s nice though cause it has the cart that goes with it. I appreciate your videos and can’t wait for more. I have a 6 pack of different glaze pop flavors to try as well. Thanks again.

    Coconut oil and flavacol salt are the absolute keys to the movie theater popcorn flavor. Add only a teaspoon or teaspoon and a half of the popcorn salt, adding too much will make the popcorn way to salty. If you use the type of popcorn packs with the kernels, oil, and salt separate, use only half the salt.

    thanks for making this video. So about how much kernels would you say your adding with the 2 scoops? And how big was your measuring spoon for the salt? I made my first batch of popcorn last night with my Vevor cart style popcorn machine and it turned out tough and I was really bummed about it. I used approx 2 tbsp coconut oil and about 1/2 cup of kernels and it wasn't even enough to overflow out of the kettle when it all popped. I'm thinking that was part of my problem was just not adding enough kernels so it would force the overflow flap open and release the steam. I am thinking maybe I need to use closer to a cup of kernels. It's an 8oz kettle so what are your thoughts on this? Think it will work in making my popcorn crispier? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

    For the fluffiest popcorn: Use a heavy pot and I like canola oil. Get the oil as hot as possible BEFORE adding the kernels. (NEVER add kernels to cold oil) I use med high heat. (The hotter the better) Just be careful not to burn it. Burnt popcorn sucks! Use a vented lid so the steam can escape and not get your popcorn all soggy. I don't shake shit! There's enough shaking going on with each pop of the kernels to keep things moving. I then dump it all in a box, close the top and shake so the small stuff exits out the narrow slits I made in the box. You know, the unpopped kernels and small crap no one wants to eat. I add some Flavacol and maybe some butter, mix it up and dump it into the serving bowl. DONE. I like the box because it's big and each and every popcorn is coated pretty much equally.

    This particular oil is made yellow to give the popcorn that yellow look.

    Oil might not be getting hot enough to pop the kernels? Too much oil? That’s usually the only reason they’d be chewy. Do they also seem full of oil?

    You need to add the popcorn when the oil is Hot AND most importantly, leave the front drop down bin OPEN while popping AND the Glass doors Fully Open or at least partially open so the steam can escape. Steam kills the crunch and makes popcorn chewy.
