We have flat fees based on an estimated number of hours for each part of the event. If someone only needs us to find a venue or caterer, they are only charged for that time as a flat fee.

Thanks for this information. Can you expand on how to account for the cost of a venue that says you must use their items, like hotels?

You're welcome. :) Before you complete your budget before the event, have a conversation with the venues you're considering to find out what's included (and what's not). Get a complete list from them. If you're using a hotel, they have Cost Sheets available.

I'm thinking seriously of doing a 1st event with a team of music event management/musicians (full time profssional musicians) to do a fundraiser for a good cause how do I go about doing this as a 1st event? how much do I need to spend/how much should I spend for 1st event? how much should I keep my budget at and how do I go about having the money to pay the whole team of people working with them and also talking to potential clients/vendors?

When you charge per hours, when do you tell the client the price ? because you may not know how many hours you will be working for each day until the event

Hi Agnes, here's an article that will walk you through how to charge - eventplanningblueprint.com/how-to-charge-for-event-planning-services/ It's really important to track your time and keep your client informed about the hours worked, so this will help.

I made the mistake of telling a couple to give me a donation for planning their wedding.. what a big mistake!!! Trying to help people 😬 they paid big money on liquor and the venue. I walked away with not enough to put gas in my car 🤦‍♀️ what a disappointment!!

Hi! Can I apply these same tools to my event decorating services? I have a hard time with price points and package pricing. Anytime I give a quote and the client signs I feel like I undercut myself. Every time a client goes with another business I feel like I quoted too much. Thank you so much!

Hey Laura, my first questions before saying yes or no are: 1. have you ever surveyed people who've hired you (or not hired you) to find out why they did (or didn't) choose to work with you? 2. Do you know what other event decorators in your area are charging? Not the ones who are doing it on the side, the businesses who've been around a long time and are successful. Start there, and you'll have your answers to your question :) P.S. DO NOT compete on price alone because that'll just put you straight outta business. It's really important to find out the answers to questions 1 & 2 and understand your value to clients. It has to be more than just providing event decor otherwise it's very easy for them to go elsewhere. Good luck!

Hi I'm also having the same problem with clients. When I charge them , they always go elsewhere. I try to charge less because I have almost all the equipments. When hiring, I don't hire a lot of things, that's why I charge cheap, but they always find my quot expensive. Sometimes I feel like they want me to work for free. I do Deco and hiring.

I am not sure how I should be charging. I am not an event planner. I am an event designer and decorator. After the brides has her wedding ceremony site and venue site, I am the person they see to design the look for each site and then decorate it accordingly. Usually accordingly to whatever theme thay have, whetherbit be a color theme or a special theme.

I ask what they are in visioning? What's your budget? I get frank. "You can't get all of that, for $$$." I can give you this. (Always keeping my salary in mind, minus props, dinnerware, decorations, etc.) If their budget is going to make my display messy, I'm out.
