I remember making 808 kicks and toms with 3 elements - 1 osc (sine or triangle wave) & 2 envelopes (one for pitch) on a really simple modular synth sample maker in the mid 90's - It's name escapes me at the minute. There was violent tweeter nightmare in the first few attempts (think Kraftwerk blips) generating the samples on a 66Mhz CPU PC. This stopped when I dialled the pitch env way down. After that it was beef and scruff the sound up a bit and bingo!

Perfect timing with this one! Was just getting into 808’s. Also, I’ve been wanting to mention that I’d be interested in a video on reggae/dub. Would be killer if you made a video and went over the theory, techniques, rhythms and or sounds used. For instance: “the bubble” on keys or the “dub” baseline. I don’t believe any of the elements are very technically challenging but you could spice it up by explaining how all the elements fit so well together to create the overall mix/ umami.

Nathan Stolte - I wear size 13’s, as well. I’m also 6’-2”, 220 lbs. (188 cm, 100 kgs) if I want to find decent clothes that fit me, I often have to shop online, with companies that cater towards tall people. It’s not like tall people are rare, either. If you’re just looking for some cheap shirts or pants, don’t expect to find them at Walmart. I asked about it, and was told that Walmart doesn’t carry ANY tall sizes. Forget wearing any ‘one size fits all’ clothing. On the bright side, I live in a small farming community and we have a lot of stock, feed and farming equipment stores. They all carry jeans and work clothes, in tall sizes, at great prices. One store has Carhardt jeans for $22. Levi’s cost $35 at the mall, and they aren’t as comfortable and don’t last as long. Being tall has its advantages, but also has its disadvantages. It takes me twice as long to do my grocery shopping, because people are always asking me to get things from the top shelf. I also have a lot of scars on my shins, from begging them into things. When my wife says something about it, I have to explain that my eyes are too far away from my feet. 😂

I love working with Simpler but I tend to gravitate toward Operator when making basses because I can add harmonics like we just saw in SubLab. Also I love how the bottoms of those shoes look like MIDI notes.
