How To Make Homemade Whipped Soap From Scratch

Join me as I show you how to make homemade whipped soap from scratch. It’s not hard, it’s just a little time-consuming. I’ve found that making my own from scratch doesn’t really save me any money, but I’m in control of the quality of the ingredients, and my base comes out more luxurious and easier to work with, and you can’t put a price on that!
This base ends up so incredibly smooth, and whips up to perfection. It takes additional oils and fragrances well and colors very easily. Stick with the video to the end and you can see the thick, fluffy whipped soap we can make out of this.
You’ll need the following ingredients and equipment:
Distilled Water
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI)
Stearic Acid
Cocamidopropyl Betaine
Vegetable Glycerin
Germall Plus
Double Boiler
Wire Whisk
Thermometer (Digital is Best)
Stick Blender
Empty Container (Preferably Plastic)
Gloves
Mask
Hair Net
Recipe
This is not my recipe. I believe I got this from “DIY Foaming Bath Whip From Scratch” - Young and Making It TV.
20% Distilled Water (Do NOT use tap/spring water)
31% Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI)
5% Stearic Acid
20% Cocamidopropyl Betaine
23% Vegetable Glycerin
1% Germall Plus
Here are some interesting facts about the ingredients we’re going to use:
Distilled Water
Using distilled water protects against microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoans.
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI)
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is one of the mildest surfactants you can use. It is used to make bubble baths, bath bombs, foaming bath butter bases, and shampoo bars. It is so mild that this extremely gentle surfactant is also called baby foam, and is used in many baby products.
Stearic Acid
Stearic Acid is a fatty acid that is an emulsifier that helps to keep products from separating. It is also an emollient and lubricant. It helps to soften skin. It's used in numerous products like soap, lotion, and moisturizers.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine
Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a thickening agent that produces a nice, thick lather when combined with water. This makes products feel creamier, and the lather loosens the dirt and gunk on your skin, causing it to rinse off easier after cleaning.
Vegetable Glycerin
Vegetable Glycerin is a clear liquid that is usually made from soybean, coconut, or palm oils. It is thicker than water and is used widely in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. It's believed to have anti-aging properties, to help with acne treatment, to reduce blemishes and marks, and is an effective moisturizer for dry skin.
Germall Plus
Germall Plus is a natural broad-spectrum preservative and is great to use in emulsion products, scrubs, shampoos, and hair conditioners.

The place that takes long with the shipping, (I know the company you’re referring too) they charge a pretty decent amount for 5lbs.. more than a bucket of the premade..

Awe, thank you! That's a great question. Of course, a lot of it will depend on your skin. The sugar (or salt, if that's what you're using) removes the dead, dry skin. I don't recommend using it daily because you can easily irritate the skin underneath. Start with twice a week, and if your skin does well with that, but you still feel like you want to exfoliate more, then go up to three times. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching💖

Hi! The usage rate for Germall Plus is .5% - 1%. I made a 300 g batch in this video and added 1% of the preservative, which came out to 3 g. I haven't heard or seen to use 1 g per pound. Perhaps that is for a different type of preservative?

Hi! Once you have decided how much you want to make and figured out how much of each ingredient you're going to use, then you will want to figure out the percentage for the preservative. You may or may not need to increase the amount you use, depending on the size of the batch you're going to make. I hope that helps, lol. • @CherryRockCreations

    @CherryRockCreations

Hey😁 I'm not sure what you're asking. The ingredients will eventually melt down. It takes a long time, especially because you don't want to use high heat. You may even want to use a double-broiler to melt everything. You have to keep mixing even when it's really thick. Once it melts, it thins out a lot, and it's way more manageable. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching❤️

Hey there! 3 pounds of the foaming soap base is going to be about 1350 grams. Using the recipe, I believe these are the amounts you will need. The weight in ounces is approximate. You won't be as accurate using ounces as you would using grams. I recommend you start with a small batch to make sure you like the formula 😊 I hope this helps! 270 g Distilled Water (9.5 oz) 418 g SCI (14.75 oz) 67 g Stearic Acid (2.35 oz) 270 g Cocamidopropyl betaine (9.5 oz) 310 g Glycerin (11 oz) 15 g Germall Plus (.5 oz)

Hey, this is a great question. When figuring out the preservative amount for your sugar scrub, you would definitely want to include the amount of sugar in your recipe to determine how much preservative to use. However, in this video I'm making the whipped soap base. I add preservative to this base per the amount of ingredients I use for this particular item. When I'm ready to make a sugar scrub I measure out "x" amount of this base for my sugar scrub recipe, along with any oils, fragrance, sugar, etc. I add preservative to the sugar scrub based on all of my ingredients, including the sugar. I'm essentially adding preservative twice. Once to the batch of whipped soap base, and then again when I make sugar scrub from the base. I hope this helps😊
