How to make homemade prunes easy recipe. Preserve fruit without canning.
Good morning KZread friends!
It’s finally time to harvest our plums!!! And boy do we have a lot of em!
So excited to share with you ways to preserve them.
Today we’re making prunes
I know I know.... prunes sound like something our great grandmothers would make us eat to keep us regular. But these little gems are totally underrated!!
And they’re incredibly easy to make.
No added sugar or preservatives. I promise this insanely simple recipe with change your mind about prunes:)
All you need is
About 50 plums
1 lemon (juice and zest)
A dehydrator or oven that can go as low as 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
Wash your plum well.
Cut in half along natural seam
Add in zest/ juice
Mix and let sit about 20 min
Place in dehydrator cut face up adding bits of zest that have stuck to the bowl.
Turn on dehydrator
Rotate racks and flip plums after 5-6 hours
Check again at about 10 hours
Depending on your dehydrator and size of your plums prunes will take 11-16 hours.
They should not have liquid come out when you squeeze them or glisten with moisture. But still be pliable to touch.
Store in a airtight container and
Enjoy for up to 6 months!
Cheers:)

I adore prunes, I like snipping them up to add to baked goods instead of raisins. We just ordered some plum trees, I hope it doesn't take too many years to produce fruit! Thanks for the video.

This is awesome, really informative. The end result looks quite lovely too! I'm just curious: have you ever used blood plums to make prunes? I'd love to know how they taste and whether they would work as prunes or not (and if not, why not?)

Such a calm video, feels like asmr to me lol. Unfortunately I don't have a food dehydrator, I think I won't find it here in Brazil, but I'll try it in the oven. Thanks for the awesome recipe!

Oh that's a wonderful n easy recipe! Can they be sundried or something like that? Did you try any other way for storing them else than dehydrating? Thanks for sharing the recipe. 😊

Thanks so much for watching! 💚 They can definitely be sun dried (I’ve only done it once on metal mesh) I’ve also frozen them as well. Perfect for pie filling:)
Make sure you let them cool completely before you store them. Storing them warm can cause condensation.

Thanks so much for watching! in a sealed container they should last at least 6 months. According to google you can also put them in the fridge to get a little more life out of them after the 6 months:)
are those San Rosa? I have 2 trees I m going to dehydrate for the first time once I get the dehydrator

Watched your video. Amazing. .......... I live in Pakistan. We dont have prune trees here. But lots of plum trees. Good quality of plum fruit. Can I use plums to make dried prune. I mean, will prune made from plum have the same health benefits. I will appreciate if you could please clarify.

Yes- from what I understand prunes made from plum tress have the same benefits. I’m not sure which species of plum makes a traditional prune- but the type I’m growing seem to be close I hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching!
