How to make Hard Trance / Hard Trance Walkthrough - Vol 1: Kick & Bass
Thank you for checking out this video!
This Hard Trance Walkthrough will show you how to make Kick & Bass sounds for your Hard Trance tracks in FL Studio 20. Your Kick & Bass is the most important part of your track and it has to be right in order for the rest of your sounds to flourish, but as a producer I found that it was one of the most difficult things to master. Years of producing Hard Trance has given me the experience to be able to create a good sounding Kick & Bass, so I decided to share this knowledge in this Hard Trance Walkthrough.
In this video I will be using the finished FL Studio 20 project file for my remix of Loki - O.D.S.T. to demonstrate how I create and mix my sounds, the tools I use and the mixer routing. Please note that this video shows the final mixdown (pre-master) version of the track and not the master.
Extra special thanks to Loki @ Echo Base ( / echo.base.london ) for assistance with the mixdown and for letting me use the studio.

    @@louispoglens609 Hi mate, glad you like the videos. I don't really synthesize my own drums. I find the Vengeance kicks are more than capable in all instances, but I did do a video about how to maximise your kicks with KSHMR Essentials which is great VST for fast results on kicks. You can check that one here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y6SI1ZSSdZizY6w.html

    I really appreciate how you solo each track, and then play it back with each plugin turned OFF, and then again with in ON. It helps us understand what the plugin is actually doing to the sound in the processing chain.

    Coming back from your tutorials from time to time to get tips and ideas, thank you for those really precious resources for hard trance! A questions though, all those Vengeance kicks have long reverby tails which make powerful hardtrance sounds, but are they not clashing with the subs? At home it sounds ok on my track but not sure if its not gonna work on club sound system with proper subwoofers.

  • @DeanZone

    @DeanZone

    Ай бұрын

    You are right they would but if you listen closely you'll see the Sub only really occupies frequencies that the Kick doesn't have. I also took out some of the lows (see the SSLChannel on the Kick). The kick peaks at about 70hz in the low end according to SPAN, but I decided not to make that cut in the Sub as I didn't want to make it too wimpy. Like anything there are rules that you can follow BUT they don't always make sense in the mix and I guess I felt at the time that it needed that sub in there as its not loud enough to cause issues with the kick. I hope that helps!

    Mastering is a totally different artform. I don't pretend to be a mastering Engineer, but a masic master chain might be something like: EQ > Stereo Imaging > Compression > Limiting When it comes to Mastering I always pay for it to be done professionally. It's always good to get another pair of ears to listen to your. mixdown as they may be able to hear things to improve that might help to get a better Master.

    @@DJ_AllanonNot much is needed to be done in mastering if you have a good mixdown. If you’re struggling to get your track loud you need to go back into your mix. Make sure you haven’t got any massive transient spikes or your low end is taking up to much headroom these are common things that stop you from getting a loud master.

    I'm not sure I follow? The Sub Bass is cut to 150hz. There's plenty of Sub information there, but not enough to interfere with the kick.
