How To Make Gorilla Glue - Backpacking Food (HD)

Follow along as I show how to make one of my favorite dinners on the trail - Gorilla Glue. This is a really simple meal that only requires 3 store bought items - a box of Mac n Cheese, a pack of 4 cheese instant potato mix and a stick of pepperoni.
When preparing make sure you use the recommend amount of water based on your instant potato brand and how much of the package you use in each serving.

    Hi Rod This is so simple to make that I always have some ready to go. If it's a nice day grab a package and head for the hills. I've tried pepperoni, pulled pork (day hike only) and bacon bits. It's all good even without meat. I found some dried vegetable soup mix and some low sodium chicken soup mix at a bulk store that is a nice addition to this. One tablespoon of chicken soup mix added to potatoes and two tablespoons of vegetable soup mix in a separate bag. Add vegetable soup mix to water and let sit for at least 5 minutes then make it as in your video. I start with about 400 ml or just under two cups of water, much easier to add a little more if needed.

    I just made a meal of this. When I used your measurements, I was left with extra pasta. I added 2 cups of water and followed the instructions. At 10 minutes it was very soupy. I gave it another 6 minutes and it was better but still a little thin. When you measured your pasta into three meals were you left with extra pasta? I could just divide all ingredients into thirds or maybe use less water, maybe 1 1/2 cups. I always test new recipes first. It tasted great and was easy to make. When I make it again I will let you know how it worked.....Take care, Bluefin.

    +mustang774 I don't end up with extra pasta, but essentially my measurement is a "heaping" 1/2 cup. Same with the potato, none left over from the size package I use. I interacted with someone else who had the same issues with it being soupy and it turned out they did the potato into 4 equal parts not a "heaping" 1/2 cup. I usually go for a soupier mix with all of my meals to ease clean up and allows me to drink the last little bit. In hind site I could have explained all of that better. Always learning. I am glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback.

    I fooled up and used slightly less tan half a cup of pasta. It turned out a little thinner than your photo but it tasted great and clean up was a breeze which is a +. For my two remaining meals I will use a little less water as I vacuum sealed them already. I thought it may be nice to add some dried vegetables as a variation on this meal. It was good and filling. Thanks for the extra info.....Take care, Bluefin.

    I TRIED IT! It's terrific fixin's and as you say, filling. Amazing Rob. Thanks for sharing that brain storm. Beats the pants off of an 8$ freeze dried especially if just heading out for 2 or 3 nights or a 5 day section. I added some shredded pizza cheese and some potato spices to give it a zip. Cleaning my Primus Eta 1L was a breeze with this dish.

    When I made this using The amount of water recommended for the mashed potatoes and a serving it came out like stiff Glock. Are you sure you didn't mean for both the macaroni & cheese and the potatoes per serving?

  • @BackpackingAdventures

    @BackpackingAdventures

    +Jeff Nash Sorry it came out that way. It is just a starting point for amount of water and I should have been more clear about that. I don't measure super exact with water on the trail. That is the variation you may have experienced. You can see in the video how it comes out for me. I do know that adding just a bit of water can take it from thick to soupy. I would try adding just a bit more. Did you like the taste?
