You're a god damn life saver. Only vehicle I have and I have to get lower ball joints out before a big trip across the U.S. for a new life changing job in a couple of days. I already cut the nut off of my lower ball joint so I started to panic when I couldn't get the nut off the CV and all the videos I watched weren't helping, I just don't have all the equipment they do and I don't have to money for someone else to do it, then I just tried your method, I had to post immediatly to thank you. 11 years later, you're work has made a huge impact on my life and my families in a way you can't even know.
Absolute genius! After an entire morning spent hammering, heating, impacting, WD40-ing and plenty of cursing, this method worked inside of 5 minutes. I put a bottle jack under the socket for support and used a 24" breaker bar with a 4' pipe on the end for extra leverage but it cracked the rusted seal first push. Thanks so much for this simple but brilliant idea.

Good idea with the screwdriver but I've never had a nut come off so easy. Normally it takes 2 meters of an extension and a 100kg individual dancing on it.

no he's right they come off that easy with the screw driver in it, managed to pull off a decade old bolt after having put a torch, grease and a breaker bar with my weight and nothing, but fuck it the screw driver worked better than the breaks so there was probably paper work done to get this squared away

I wish we saw this before my husband nearly exhausted all of his energy!! First try with this cool trick and it's off!! Thank you!!!
Genius idea. Got my seized hub nut off this way after i bent 2 breaker bars over the past month trying other methods. I almost gave up on it and considered taking a grinder to it too, but i would've had to scrap the new CV that way. Saved me extra time and money. You earned my sub and thumbs up!
Thank you for putting this on here, we were trying to get the axle nut off for two days and in five minutes we had it loosen with this method. Thank you for sharing
Here's a trick i was shown as an exhaust fitter. Put a little BRAKE FLUID on the thread and leave for apx 1hour. It works with any stubborn nut... THIS IS NOT A JOKE IT WORKS.
Was having a bit of a problem getting an axle nut off on a vehicle I'm working on that has a broken cv shaft. This helped a ton. Thank you.
Thanks for the vid, it certainly helped with the screwdriver. I still couldn’t get it though until I started pulling “up” on the breaker bar. Instead of pushing it down to the left with gravity. Back muscles are stronger...hopefully that helps someone too.
You the Best, I had a headache of how to remove this nut. Thanks for this
That's a great idea! I'm not sure it loosens the nut any but the thing spinning can be a real problem. I love the comment "Just use an impact wrench". Cool, but if we were mechanics with the proper tools then we probably would not be searching youtube to find the best way to remove a "stuck" hub bolt.
After fighting with my own nightmare scenario. (and I still am) The comments from this video honestly, put things in perspective. Which is why I am giving this video a like. While the video portrays what I would call the grass is greener on the other side, as it is subjective. The comments herein, of peoples hardships is the golden dirty truth. Simply because the people searching for the "how to" vids, have already identified a problem.
Thank you for that tip. Been working on cars for years and never thought of something so simple.
This helped me put the wheel back on the trailer and surprise hubby,so Thanks.
Your video helped alot, the mechanics of it were alot easier after I saw you do it... That bolt was loose already, hate that you made it seem like it was so easy, loved how you explained the tips. 8 outta 10 stars.

Forgot all about this technique! Thanks for the video!!!
Its good that you used a jack stand & the jack to support the vehicle . I have seen many under a car without a solid support because they just don't realize that they can die in a 10th of a second when a jack fails .

thanks alot, seriously, that was very cool and useful, non car guys like me definitely grateful.
thank you so much. great video. worked really well and fast. i have used several of your videos to help me
The trick with the screw driver in the venting hole is quite useful! But the nut is usually much harder to untighten. Once had one, which didn't move with an 1 yd extension by standing on the end of it.

Thanks, Had a mission ahead of me until I came across your video. Thanks brother.
That's a great way to do it. I learned that in school with the screwdriver. I like your harbor freight gloves. I have the same ones
Perfect just now remove caster nut with this technique. My axle was broke and free spinning. Worked perfect.
Worked just perfect for me! Thank you!
Never would have thought to use a screw driver to make the whole axel stop spinning. Thank you very much was having an issue without an air gun
Thanks brother! Saved me an hour 😂
Great tip, I hope you got more of them.
Quick and simple, love it...
This worked great for me THANK YOU!!👍🏼👍🏼
MAN! you are a life saver! great trick
oh damn. I'll have to give this a try. gonna try one last time at getting it out before taking it to a shop.
Even though that axle nut was pre loose before the video was taped. The premise of the video was spot on. I used the same advice when I was working on my 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 and it worked perfectly.
My hero, thanks dude.
I'm about to replace all the steering components on my 1997 Suburban K1500 and this was one of the things I was worried about and thought I needed to buy an impact wrench. Thank you for this tip, wish me luck and hopefully it isn't sized on there for me.
Dude you saved my dad and I so much time! That sucker was a pain!
Thanks! This was extremely helpful
I couldn't get the bolt broken loose with the prybar method, with the screwdriver I got it broken in no time. Thanks a lot for the help
Thanks! So simple, surprised it didn't cross my simple mind :)
Very useful technique. Thank you.
I was replacing a wheel hub assembly following a tutorial and when they got to the part about taking the axle nut off i had already taken the rotors and brake caliper off. here's what i did: literally just jammed the base of a ratchet behind the hub, between the metal frame (?) behind the hub and the top of one of the studs, and then cranked it. the ratchet fell out a few times but it worked and i was desperate
People who are watching this lol, normally a 10 to 15 years old axle nut is about 9000 times harder to remove than shown in this video. Right now I'm trying to find OTHER ways to remove the damn axle nut... such as perhaps breaking the nut itself, because mine won't even budge after heating it up and a 5 feet breaker bar.

I had a stuck CV nut on my 99 blazer 4x4 I had to beat the hell out of that thing and then soak it in PB blaster for 3 days just to break it free. Sometimes it's not as easy as other people make it out to be.
When I did the other side, your way--with the brake caliper still on and a screwdriver in the slot--worked instantly.
My dad and i had difficulites trying to get it to come loose. I had to hold the rotor against his direction. After breaking a bar and many attempts it finally moved. i was discouraged on attempting to replace my brothers axles without any help from past experiences until i came across this video. If it works ill have made a few bucks and he gets to save money from ridiculous mechanic prices. Ill be back in a few days to update how it went. Wish me luck!
Awesome, I never thought about the screw driver being there. Thanks
Man awesome video really saved my ads!

Thank you! Super helpful.
Great tip. Thanks for sharing and cheers.
Did this and it broke my bar 🤣
Haha thank you for helping me get my nut off I thought I was going to have to go buy an impact wrench!
Great tip. I already took the caliper and rotor off the hub. After heating the nut twice, I stood on my breaker bar and got it loose. My trick is put a long enough box wrench around a wheel stud and have it vertical to the ground, and it kept the hub from spinning.
11 years ago… hell yeah! TY
saved my alot of time, thanks
Saved my butt, thanks!
I love this guy thanks
Nice tip. My back thanks you!!
Perfect! Thanks.
man thanx to this video I saved money and was able to get axle nut off with ease...

Generally speaking, I have never seen an axle nut comes off that easy.
Thanks! I will definitely try it :D

Nice trick!! Im gping to do thos on my town and cointry tomorrow!! Need to get a 31mm socket
I am working on a my Dodge Dakota and have tried this, as well as soaking it in PB over night it wont't budge. Yesterday I went and broke two 1/2 inch breaker bars trying to get the nut off. Today I spent all day with a MAP torch to the nut and after about 2 hours I broke a third 1/2 inch breaker bar so I am picking up a 1 inch breaker bar and the one inch socket so if using a map torch and a breaker bar rated to 1800 ft/lb of torque won't get it off then I am gonna need a miracle.

@@alexcorrea308 I bought a 4 foot galvanized steel pipe today from home depot to get mine loose. $30 smh
This concept worked on my 1997 chevy K1500. I used a 3/8 extension though. But it really didn't take much effort at all to break the nut free. Thanks!
Thanks to this channel and commenter ideas. If this does not work as shown in the video trying it with center capped popped off and wheel on the ground with a six foot pipe connected to a 1 1/2 ft breaker bar, Ended up popping removing wheel, then added PB Blastered Axle nut, Torched Axle Nut, Chiseled and Heavy Hammered to cutt into opening slot as demonstrated, and chiseled away quarter inch covering of metal portion around hub, then PB Blastered and Torched one more time, popped wheel back on, placed wheel chalk at both end of wheels, and cranked back and forth both directions till I heard slight cracks, and finally forced as much pressure as possible after about 10 to 15 minutes of back forth to break nut free. Used 5ft hollow tube connected to new breaker bar. Required for 02' Mazda Protege5 driven in sleet and snow with 16 year old axle nuts.
Sweet!! Thanks
Thank you good sir!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Impact every time saves time and tools
Good trick I'm gonna try that
Super high five. Thx
thanks chief
I did Break dancing and moon walking on my breaker bar and an extension bar ..no luck on a 1996 Maxima ....put a few blocks of wood on the ground and put the breaker bar on that and put the car in drive and it was picking the front of the car up and still not coming loose..Breaker bar went Snap and went flying broken up over my hood ..went to hourborfreight and bought an impact gun and " POOF WHAMO " Off came that nut
Life saving. Working on a 2007 Suzuki and the socket won't fit through the wheel like my Toyota did. Thanks alot.
You good sir, are a baller
I am sure it works sometimes, however mine is 14 years stuck and after trying your method with a good penetrating oil I have just stripped the nut. I believe after a certain point one will just need to get mean with a chisel or more preferably an air cutting tool. Regardless, I appreciate the simple trick advice.

I have already started at cutting mine off anticipating needing to buy another higher end cutter if the wheel on the ground pop off center cap idea does not work w/ 6ft breaker bar

Whats the size of the socket for the breaker bar. ?
Good Idea, i currently have a 42 inch breaker bar on mine and i accidentally started to lift my car off the jack stands, thats how hard i was dead lifting the bar,
Good day, quick question your jack stand position is at what point on the suspension?
How does that lock thing work? My Escort is the first time I've seen anything like that and it is still stubbornly hanging on
I uselly use a impact gun I ran into way too many rusted bolts. You must have already had this one loose I have never seen one come off like that. Hell one time I had to take a chisel and hammer and cut the bolt to get one off one time
Worked for me but I heated the hub nut first thank you
One way is to loosen the nut while the tire/wheels are resting on the group. Chock all the wheels and ask someone to apply the brakes before using the breaker bar.
Genius
Thanks
bent out the notch tried with the impact wrench and a torque wrench. passenger tire is still on ground only have driver side lifted. but is not coming loose.
