How to make FLASH BREW coffee! Why Japanese iced coffee is the PERFECT summer drink!!

Wonderfully flavourful, perfectly refreshing and WAY BETTER than cold brew - use this flash brew recipe to make incredible iced coffee that will blow your mind for the CHEMEX, V60, WAVE and more!
Making Japanese iced coffee is easy and transferable to ANY pour over brewer.
Just use these principles:
- 1:15 ratio
- Grind finer than normal
- 1 minute bloom
- For your water, divide it into 60% hot water and 40% ice
- Once all the ice in your brew has melted, serve over ice.
Heres my CHEMEX recipe for TWO CUPS
- 40g coffee
- 600g water (360g hot water and 240g ice)
- Bloom 1 minute
- Aim for draw down 3-4 minutes
- Serve over ice
And here is for SINGLE SERVE using a Kalita Wave, Hario V60 or ANY other pour over brewer:
- 16g coffee
- 240g water (145g hot water, 95g ice)
- Bloom 1 minute
- Aim for draw down 2-3 minutes
- Serve over ice
Let me know how your brew turned out and what you brewed it in!

Hi! I’m so excited to try this recipe and I just got my first chemex. I was wondering what number did you set your fellow ode to for the chemex for this recipe? I’m still learning which grind size is best

I think I did 2 or even one notch finer. Give it a shot and let me know! It can vary by bean so if the first brew goes to fast, just grind finer or if it takes too long grind a little finer!

How often do you make these and how has the durability of the carafe? I saw a review of the Hario v60 carafe cracking after a few months, so I'd be concerned with the difference in temperature causing it to crack prematurely or something.

I've never heard of an issue with this. Maybe if you were putting it on a hot stovetop I could see this but I've only ever broken one by dropping it.

Since my girlfriend don’t drink black coffee (or anything else than a Bailey flavored cappuccino…), I usually go solo with my V60 or Aeropress for that kind of brew. But you are right… sooooo refreshing 🧊 ☕️

Do you include the bloom time in your draw down target time? I just did this Chemex version and got 530 total time (including 1 minute bloom). Did I brew too long?

  • @DaddyGotCoffee

    @DaddyGotCoffee

    2 жыл бұрын

I did include the bloom. Without tasting it I would guess that’s a hair long. Was it bitter at all? If not, it’s probably fine! I’ve had good Chemex brews at 5:30 but generally am a little shorter esp on a flash brew. But.. go by taste first! If it’s bitter, try grinding coarser. If it’s sour, try grinding finer ☺️

@@DaddyGotCoffee That’s helpful, thanks. It did taste good. I think because I’m at higher altitude (8200ft/2500m) my brew temp is lower so it’s not extracting as much so a little longer doesn’t hurt.
