Easy Fig Jam with Just 3 Ingredients
About 40 medium-sized FRESH FIGS
½ cup SUGAR
¼ cup HONEY
How to make Quick Fig Jam
This recipe will work with all kinds of fruit (blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, etc.), but Mama Redbuck has a fig tree in her backyard, so she mostly uses figs when making this quick jam. If you don’t have fresh fruit handy in the neighborhood where you live, just buy fresh fruit at the market.
Buy figs that are a little soft, color can be a good indication, but not always, sometimes even the greener figs can be soft enough, so give figs a squeeze to test for squishiness. Once picked, figs don’t last very long, maybe 2 days when ripe. You can keep fresh figs in the fridge, but they won’t keep for very long after becoming soft, only a couple of days, so making a jam is an easy way to extend their life another 7-10 days. My mom seals extra fig jam in bags and freezes it for future use.
Wash figs and remove the stem.
Quarter and then chop the figs as desired. We like a rustic, chunky jam.
Heat a medium-sized saucepan on low heat.
Add figs, sugar, and honey and bring the pot to a simmer, stirring regularly.
As the pot bubbles away, the figs will release a lot of water.
Let the pot simmer until the mixture reaches your desired “jamminess”, this might take 10 to 20 minutes depending on how wet the figs are and how thick you like your jam.
The jam will thicken even more off of the heat, so don’t overcook the fruit; you want a spreadable jam, not a clunky fig paste.
If the jam becomes overly thick, you can always add a wee little bit of water back into the pot.
Remove the Jam from the heat and allow to cool before adding into a container.
The jam will keep in the fridge for about a week to 10 days, although a pint of jam
Disappears fairly quickly around our home, especially if we make some biscuits.
Give this easy fig jam recipe a try and let me and Mama Redbuck know what you think.

What a sweet video! I bought some fresh figs from a neighbor and I have more that I can consume! I want to make some jam, so here I am! Also, she sold me a 1’ tall cutting from her tree last fall. I planted it and it’s almost 5’ tall now. No fruit yet, but maybe this fall. I think I’ll call my tree MeeMaw!
I was born and raised in the South, and fig jam is one of the things I miss the most. We strung old aluminum pans (the kind pie crusts come in) and ran a bit of rope to the house. When the birds and squirrels got to stealing the fruit we could reach out the back door and pull that rope. The pans would flutter and twinkle, and the varmints would scatter. Wasn't fool proof but it did slow them down. Love figs straight from the tree, too.
Your mama is such an angel. Love this video and the jam looks amazing!

What a sweetheart. Reminds me of my mom.. rest her soul. LUCKILY she planted two fig trees in the yard 14yrs ago. 😁
Was over at a neighbors yesterday standing under the shade of a fig tree full of figs. She told me I could have all I wanted that she had gotten all she would use. I'd never done anything with figs before and am not crazy about eating them right of the tree. Checked notifications and saw this. Guess I'll be out in 100 degree SC heat picking figs. Thanks Buck. And I mean that.

My mama makes quite a bit of jam, seals it and throws it in the freezer...she'd have a lot of wasted figs, otherwise. I for one love to eat figs right off the tree, which is a taste I acquired only in the past few years. For years and years I couldn't get over my association of figs with the dreaded Fig Newton, arguably the least satisfying of all cookies (I decided this at a very young age).
Great recipe. Very similar to how I make my jams. It's always good to make jam. We've quite a fair bit of fruits from the garden and end up making a ton of different jams each year. Lovely to tie us over for the winter - and great during the summor. I myself am quite fond of a small bowl of lactose free yoghurt with a bit of Jam in it stirred. As a small desert. Nom nom nom.

My mom ends up freezing most of her jam, especially for years like this when she gets so many figs...I can eat a lot, but only so much in a day!
Hi me from Pakistan.I have a lot of fig trees in my yard but now by watching this video I would love to try this recepi to enjoy my figs.thanks
I love you meemaw! Next time try adding a little lemon or lime to enhance the flavor of the fig. The acidity is very tasty and breaks up the sweetness a bit and preserves it longer ❤️ especially when making large batches of fig jam/preserves
I can't even tell you how excited I was to see this video pop up! I just bought me 2 different variety of fig trees this past week. Not sure how long it will take for me to get enough figs to make fig jam but I will be saving this video for future fig jam making. Yours and Mama Redbuck's recipes has never failed me. :)

Years ago, while living in the West Valley, LA. CA. I ha a large Fig tree growing, but the squirrels weren't the problem, I was. I was always eating the ripe Figs before anyone could pick and make anything with them . . . LOL.

What a gem of a video with your mama. I loved it. I have a young fig tree and i can't wait to get a real harvest from it. I bought two pounds of figs last night and I can't decide if I want to make this fig jam or caramelized figs!! I think I'd better buy some more before they are out of season!! Thank you for sharing your sweet mama, and for the recipe :)
Followed this step by step and Mama’s fig jam really is the best! Thanks

Made this jam and it was delicious. Question for this type of jam since we let it cool for a couple of hours, do we need to sterilize the jars??
I have those same plates I bought in the early 90's!!!!!!
I came across a simple fruit sauce of pureed strawberries mixed with fig jam for ice cream or for pound cake. I also saw fig jam spread on rustic Italian bread slices with arugula, prosciutto and asiago.
Great video! What variety of fig is this? And the USDA zone please? I have two fig shrubs in the pots but want to put them in ground but I am scared winter will get them!
Thank you for this recipe, I bought fresh figs to make fig rolls only to realise you need dry ones so fig jam it is!
The recipe was exactly what I was looking for but I have a suggestion for the cameraman, you’re Mema would have really appreciated you helping pick figs instead of running and getting a beer and when she suggested getting buttermilk she would’ve been proud of you if you would’ve said sure I’ll run down and do that right now instead of saying oh I’ll have toast tomorrow. Filming for KZread is fun there’s no doubt about it , but please serve your grandmother she deserves it!
