However, with this eyewear often being in limited supply or expensive, sometimes you have to get creative. You could have stopped with get shade 14 lenses. I can figure out the cardboard stuff on my own. More to the point - WTF are shade 14 lenses and where do you get them?

Shade 14 lenses are cleared by the AAS (American Astronomical Society) for solar eclipses! Due to there extremely dark shade, your statement is true however as these lenses are also meant for welding purposes. We don't recommend using anything other than shade 13+ or ISO certified lenses for viewing solar eclipses. eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/how-to-tell-if-viewers-are-safe
