What are the settings for your pen? E.g. ard you using stabilisation, what type of pen etc?
I personally prefer the second one. It reminds me of TinTin comics

Its not cheating:) As long as you're open with it and can do it without tracing, ur good. Tracing is also a great way to learn, we all startwd there

If you want the portrait to be as accurate as possible, tracing is a great way. It also helps you practice your skill and eyes in figuring out values and shapes. For practice reasons, it is okay. Or if your client wants it to be as ACCURATE as possible. Artists aren't printers!

Ofc this is easier that drawing by hand, but its judt a fun thing? If youre new/ just wanna make a cute portrait of your pet, you can just do this?
