How to make delicious Gyudon ( Beef Bowl), step by step guide
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
#authenticjapanesefood #gyudon #beefbowl
Hi everyone. Thank you for coming back to my kitchen. Today, I'm going to show you how to make Delicious Gyudon, Japanese Beef Bowl. It's a very popular comfort food here in Japan.
Please give this recipe a try. It's so easy to recreate and delicious!
I'll leave all the ingredients and cooking instructions below.
Have fun cooking Japanese food.😊
Also, please follow me on X( Twitter ). / sushibykunihiro
Ingredients (portion for 2 or 3)
: Thinly sliced/Shaved Beef 300g ( Beef belly is most preferred. But if you
can't find it, you can use other parts.) I used thinly sliced American beef
shoulder loin instead in the video. It worked perfectly.
: 1 big Onion
: Salt ( a pinch )
Ingredients for the broth
: Water 400ml
: Hondashi Instant Dashi 1tbsp
( You don't need real Dashi for this comfort food. )
: Soy Sauce 3 tbsp
( I always use Kikkoman Soy sauce.)
: Sake 3 tbsp
( I use Sake for Drinking, not Cooking Sake in all my videos. You don't need
an expensive one. The cheapest kind such as Shochikubai is fine.)
: Mirin 2 tbsp
( I use real Mirin. Some brands are labeled " Mirin style condiments ".
Those are not the same as real Mirin. So please buy ones simply say
"Mirin" or "Hon Mirin". Hon means real in Japanese. I used Yaegaki brand
when I was in the US.)
: Sugar 1tbsp
: Fresh Ginger 15 to 20g ( After peeled )
Common Toppings
: Beni Shoga ( Red Pickled Ginger )
: Shichimi Togarashi ( Japanese Seven Spice )
These two items are available at Asian grocery stores.
Preparation Instructions
1. Grate half the onion.
2. Mix the grated onion and thinly sliced beef. Then let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
3. Slice the remaining half of the onion. ( 1cm thick )
4. Cut the fresh ginger into thin strips.
5. Start cooking Rice while waiting for the beef to be softened.
Cooking Instructions
1. Sauté the sliced onion until golden brown. It takes about 4 mins. When brown, take it out.
2. Add all the broth ingredients to the same pan and stir until sugar dissolves. Then turn
the heat to medium.
3. Add All the beef and grated onion to the pan while the broth is still cold. Then separate
the beef slices in the broth.
4. Turn the heat to low when the broth starts boiling. Then cover the beef with a drop lid and
simmer it for 20 mins. ( Please move the beef around every 5 mins )
5. After simmering for 17 mins, add the sliced onion to the broth.
6. After simmering for 20 mins, turn off the heat.
7. Let it rest for 5 mins. ( 3 mins if winter)
8 Serve on top of steamed Rice.

@sushibykunihiro7534, I just made your chicken teriyaki for the second time. My family loves it. I know this is not the link to that recipe, but this is your most recent video. I just realized you only make videos a few times a year. I hope you will increase your frequency, because I love your content. I am an American, but I watch sumo every Basho. I see the Japanese as respectful, beautiful, loyal people, with an eye for detail, history, and beauty. My mother, who is European, instilled in me a love of Asian cuisine, and I have developed an admiration of Japanese food in particular, having found recipes for karaage and many others on youtube. Your fresh, simple, unassuming style is easy to follow and understand. Most of us are home-cooks. And you cook that way, even though you are trained and talented in the sushi world. Thank you, and looking forward to your next appearance!
Such a wonderful channel. So many helpful pointers for new cooks as well. Thank you!

It's a good day when Kunihiro uploads :) It made me smile that I immediately understood how you were going to tenderize the meat, as they also used the onion enzymes to tenderize steak in the Chaliapin steak-don recipe in Shokugeki no Soma hehe. Your two ways of using onion are something I haven't seen in other recipes and I indeed had the issue with tough meat. I'll try your recipe when I have time. Thank you Kunihiro !

After several attempts, I've nailed your recipe yesterday. Half way through the bowl, I added a raw egg for extra variety in taste. Spicy togarashi, smooth yolk; hot beef and broth, cold egg. Chewey and slimy (in a nice way) - it's a perfect composition of opposites. I highly recommend

i'm glad you said "until relatively clear" when washing the rice. i once tried to wash my rice until the water was crystal clear and it never happened..i suspect that the swishing around the rice was maybe knocking off some of the surface of the rice so that there was always a little white...if i had kept at it for a thousand washes i wonder if all the rice would be gone 🙂
