    HI everyone! Just a note that once you put the labneh in jars with olive oil, you should refrigerate them where they will last for at least two months! Thanks for watching! :D

    You are exactly who I have been looking for. I love middle eastern food and Labneh is one of my favorites. I was married to an Iraqi man for many years and we used to sit together on the weekend and relax while eating labneh together. We would put the labneh onto a plate and drizzle local honey over it. We would take flat bread, not fat pita, tore the bread into pieces as we went and dipped the bread into the honey . The treat was simple, but it was one of the most delicious tastes. Because the flat bread was rough, it gives a yummy contrasting texture to the delicious creaminess of the labneh. Now, thanks to your great tutorial, I will be able to make this at home. Thank you Blanche.

    I never thought of eating labneh topped with something sweet. Makes total sense!! I’m definitely going to try that! I usually eat my labneh with cut up Persian cucumbers, a little sprinkling of course sea salt and of course good quality extra virgin olive oil, with warm pita or naan bread. I can’t wait to try out your lebneh from scratch recipe. I have made it the the whole mile yogurt before. Thanks for another great video! I a huge fan!! 💕

    Greetings from Ireland. I am basically from Kashmir (hope you know where it is). We make hung yogurt exactly like you did. We also use this hung yogurt to make a tasty pumpkin dip. Boil/steam pumpkin with a clove of garlic and mash the pulp and hang it like you did with the yogurt to remove the water. Then add this hung pumpkin pulp with hung yogurt and add a teaspoon of honey, roasted black cumin (not nigella) and salt and garnish with sultanas/walnuts. Serve chilled.

    Thank you for this video!! 🤩 Two questions for ya!! Is the brand of yogurt you used MORE sour than the standard American yogurt brands like Stonyfield? Second question. I've seen some Lebanese people add salt to the yogurt BEFORE straining it, just as you did. What does that do? Salt is used usually to draw out liquid from vegetables (as in sauerkraut). Does adding the salt in the yogurt draw out MORE whey when it is being strained, than without it? Thanks in advance for your reply!😀

  • @blanchetv

    @blanchetv

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question! The kind of yogurt you use is totally a taste preference For instance, my mom LOVES the Mountain high brand the most, she thinks it is the gold standard. As for the salt, it is mostly for flavor, as it is usually eaten plain on bread or with a sprinkle of za'atar. The longer the salt sits in the mixture, the better incorporated it will be. Hope that makes sense!

I’ve been making something similar, no salt and simply straining some Indian yogurt in a coffee filter over a colander and bowl in the fridge so I can get the whey for other purposes. I'm so confused. I thought labneh was made with kefir. I bought some storebought labneh "Lebanese cheese" as it was called, at a market and I love it! It is much less sour than Greek yogurt and has a bit of a cheese flavor that isn't there when I make yogurt and strain it. I'm curious why you don't use Greek yogurt as your starter in your homemade. What yogurt do you use?

  • @blanchetv

    @blanchetv

    Жыл бұрын

    Greek yogurt is already too thick as it is with very little moisture, I just used regular full fat yogurt for the best texture. Never tried labneh with kefir, though in the old days they simply used goat's milk if you don't mind a gamier flavor.

    Is labnah basically hung yogurt? I ask because hung yogurt is a staple in a Indian household.We make desserts and savoury dishes. 'Dahi ke Kebab'would be savory king made out of hung yogurt. ' Shrikhand' is a popular sweet dish made of it. Love from India.

    Greetings to you in India! You taught me something new, I didn't know Indians do this too, and great description as you can hang the yogurt to make the creamy cheese. Thanks for letting me know!

    @@blanchetv I found that the this particular version of whey can be used for baking bread, soup or soaking grains. But I've been tossing it too BC that's what I've been told by my grandma and mama. I'm not 100% sure though.. they told me it can burn through marble and wood that's why they toss it haha. If you hear or learn anything about it I would love to know !
