my focus was mixing kilnworked pattern bar techniques with traditional cane and murrine techniques. i hadnt really considered the potential to make sheets of glass from that, as sheet glass is typically a component OF that, but you know... theres some amazing possibilities for some cool sheets within what i did. exceptionally thought provoking

I'm SO happy you posted about them! It makes me feel not-so-alone in this gatekeeping world of glass. 😅 I want to bring the beautiful, sparkly, and unusual glass sheets to the masses to bring fun and excitement again to stained glass. Sadly, when asking of the very few in the USA/Canada who make this kind of glass, it is hush hush on how its done and what is used unless you're lucky to become an apprentice. But not everyone can be an apprentice. So many more beautiful things can be created for other artists to use in their works if more had time and guidance to train others on how to bring their own flair to the craft. I hope he finds out what that floor is that allows the glass to go flat! I cant wait to see more of what they create. I would love to bring overseas some of their works to make available in my shop. We would LOVE it over here! Thanks again for a great video introducing this group of amazing artists.

Great to see the highlights of the earlier sessions. I attended the last one and was amazed to see the number of steps it took to create the final piece. An excellent session

ok now im done with the vid. and holy crap guys!!!! you made a completely artisanal version of lamberts glass. that is amazing! also a company called uroboros was part of the original system 96, and it was created by a guy who made sheets of glass to order for stained glass workers in the 1970s. your spirit of art glass is to be commended.

Derek, I've exhausted my options for learning how to use vitreous paints for stained glass. Most stained glass supply shops stopped offering any workshops during covid and haven't started them back up. Will you consider an online course to help those of us who can't fly to England for a glass painting workshop?

Hi Derek, would love to study with you. I’m a DT Teacher so I completely get the point about perfecting it and then being able to tweak things! For your glass release, have you looked at Thinfire paper, Fibre sheet or Zyp (boron nitrate) - available mainly in spray but one place in the UK sells a brush on version. Or even kiln wash … we have a different formula for glass as opposed to ceramic kiln wash. Good luck!

Making sheet glass, I think they use a liquid of some kind to float the sheet on, not a solid surface. I saw Bullseye working glass once and I'm sure it was not a solid surface. Love the video. Good luck.

That sounds like the Pilkington Float Glass process. Molten glass is floated onto a bath of liquid molten tin.
